One more question-O/t Related
I know that you cannot get O/T based on Sensory issues alone correct?
Noahs O/t Eval showed in the sensory areas, All but 2 caregories were at least 2 standard deviations from norm. The report indicated some clear sensory issues.
As far as fine motor skills. His "grasping" was one standard deviation from norm and the rest was less then 1. So he fell into the below average range, but not as far as we know enough .
What can we do to push for O/T?
we truly feel he needs the sensory help

we just qualified for OT based on a 33% delays. I just received the report and there were also two areas where he showed deviation. I can't remember which ones though.
What are Noah's "symptons"?
For Matthew, he started jumping/flapping right after Christmas. He is seeking proprioceptive input. Basically a sensory seeker. So he is getting 1 hour per week now from EI and we haven't had the pre-school eval yet.

I dont know what that means?
He is not on the spectrum. both psych evals said no autism. But clear sensory issues.
His scores were -grasping 16th precentile
visual motor-37th percentile
and total fine motor skills 21st percentile ( -80 deviation) ..below normal..
Sensory status...he scored -2.00 standard deviations for Low Registration, Sensory Sensitivty, Sensation avoidance, Low Threshold, Auditory processing, Tactile processing, oral sensory processing.
She wrote he has significant challenges with increased sensitivity to auditory, tactile and oral input.
His issues are basically mouthing non food items, avoiding all social situations, Noise, playing with food, yet needing to be clean at the same time, refusal to have diaper changed, chlothing changed, clothing irritation, refusing to bathe, wash hair, be touched when bathed. Theres a lot more, some minor, Nothing HUGE, just lots of small things.

I think she is talking about the deviation also but in % (33%).

exactly. Although I have to say that is based on EI's guidelines, not whether or not he will get services after 3. Somehow or another they equate this into a percentage in NJ. Matthew's eval says that he qualifies for OT based on at least a 33% delay in self help skills. Again, this is his EI eval that we just did. We have not done the CST one yet so I'd imagine that scoring might be a little different.
It has nothing to do with being on the spectrum or not. Just has to do with all things that fall under the OT umbrella.

you must push at the meeting and if they do not give you what he needs then do NOT sign the iep, threaten getting a lawyer if you must. also it helps a bit if you go in with a doctors letters explaining that ot is a must bc x,y,z.
you must say that all of his sensory issues will impact him academically bc that is all they care about. if you need specifics based on what you wrote about noah just fm me. being on both sides of the cpse process and dealing with ds's own sensory issues i know the drill.
i know it is a tough process but you are almost there!

ITA. Ask for more. They will alwasy negociate it down. Bring your OT if you have to.
Do not agree with anything unless you really do.
