Re: Opening food in a grocery store to snack on while you shop...yay or nay?
I eat whiile I shop. I usually go right after I work out and I am starving. Today, i opened the sliced apples and had a few while I walked around. Of course I only eat what Im purchasing. I then proceed to drink a bottle of Propel that I will purchase. I never thought this annoyed people.

Ordinarily I would say nay, especially for the leisurely snackers, you know who they are.
Except last week I had a problem, I was shopping in a store and I could feel my blood sugar dropping, I felt really dizzy and needed some protein of some kind, I went next door with DH to a supermarket for some peanuts and a bottle of water....I was trying to be patient, but the check out girl was taking forever....I had to have a hand full of peanuts or else...

it's not a restaurant... you pay before you eat!
even when I was early in my first trimester and dizzy becuase I didn't eat for a while, I picked something up, paid for it, got the little green 'paid' sticker, and then drank the drink while shopping......
I don't think there's any excuse to eat before you buy.....

Sometimes I'll snag a grape, but that's about it. I don't think it's appropriate to snack on food in the grocery store.

Actually, you pay after you eat in a restaurant.

Re: Opening food in a grocery store to snack on while you shop...yay or nay?
i say yes but i get low blood sugar and if i don't have a gronal bar i will open a box and have one - it is better for me to correct right away otherwise i have get very light headed
i scan the item before i eat it - but we scan as we shop and then place items in the bags in the cart - then turn the scanner in and pay

wow i cant belive this. i mean we are eating something that we will pay for in less than 30 minutes, does someone reading a magazine on line also upset you ? i am not being rude i am just so suprised that something i find to be a non issue is actually really an issue for others? i want to be better educated so please dont think i am attacking i just thought you sounded pretty passionate.

I think she meant that restaurants are the only place where its OK to eat before you pay..

Re: Opening food in a grocery store to snack on while you shop...yay or nay?
big fat NAY!!
i'm almost 7 months pregnant and have low blood sugar to boot. i brought a bottle of water and a snack with me to the grocery store today just in case.
the biggest "problem" i have with it is that so many people aren't honest and don't pay. i saw it happen today with an elderly woman. she was snacking and then put the open container back on the shelf. disgusting and dishonest.
i'm not grossed out by it, but i dont' like seeing people doing it.

I did once with grapes and opened a bottle of water while I shoped but I always pay and the grapes were only about 5 just for thirst until I got the water.

Funny you say that. I sometimes wonder if I read a magazine while on line, and not buy it if that means I am "stealing" magazine info?
I don't care if someone opens something small as long as they don't make a mess and they pay for it. I worked in a supermarket as a kid and saw this all the time.
Eating a big loaf of french bread, that seems a bit odd to me.

no I don't.
and right now, I am saying I won't open anything for my kids either. I don't plan on using food as a sedative.
I agree- thats what the 'ludes are for.

Nay for me... I can wait until I get home. Doesn't really bother me what other people do though, as long as they pay for what they ate in the end.

Re: Opening food in a grocery store to snack on while you shop...yay or nay?
I always open food for my son when we are shopping, I usually get him something special that we might not have at home. Grocery shopping can be pretty freaking boring for a 2 year old, so anything I can do to keep him occupied is a HUGE help. Sometimes I let him pick something (usually a pack of mini pringles or an Innocent Smoothie) I am not sedating him by any means, but I know that it keeps him busy. I also buy him a magazine (a Thomas magazine) and by the time we get to the checkout, he has ripped the free gift off or even the cover.
I don't give a hoot if my snacking bothers other people, or if other people do it. It doesn't bother me at all!!

I would not do it, but I have seen moms doing it for their kids and IMO, as long as they pay for those items - no harm done.
