Thats not factoring in taxes, so the diff isnt a lot especially if you factor in commuting, wear and tear on car, gas , clothing exp.

I think that the % decrease is probably more significant than thinking about it in terms of the cash difference. If she is currently making 50k a year and taking an $11k pay cut that's 22% of her current salary. If she's making $100k then an 11% decrease is not as bad. It's all relative.
But yes depending on the commute, if I had to go into the city even 3 times a week it would cost me about $450 in commute alone. Plus eating lunch out 3 days a week, etc, that $900 a month would be made up relatively quickly.
Agreed. I took a 9k pay cut and the new job was further so more gas and wear and tear on my car.
I have always brought lunch or eaten at home so that never is a factor in my salary. Clothes not that much either as I have had casual jobs (this one much more casual).

Very true. It all depends on your situation I guess. I worked from home during covid for a year and a half and my husband took my car many days to work and there was nothing else I was saving on money to be at home.

Also, FYI you can usually get a low mileage discount on your car insurance if you are under a certain amount of miles per year. We don't use my husband's car very much and we qualify for it. It's a few hundred $ a year....

We use State Farm. I am not sure what the exact amount was but I think around $300 a year. I would think other agencies have similar discounts though.

Oh wow ok. I have 8k on mine and I have it almost 15 months. Hubby takes on days I am home working too.

I need to look into this.
My car is a 4 years old and has like 20K miles on it.
I do hardly any driving anymore

I would say the majority living on Long Island can do without an extra 150 or so a week after taxes. If they are cutting other expenses.

I think $11K per year is a lot, even when factoring in savings from not commuting. Is it worth it to have a better work-life balance? For some people, yes; for others, no. It's a personal decision, obviously.
What I think is bad about taking a pay cut is that when you go for another job, you're starting with a lower amount. Yes, a law was recently passed where they can't ask your current salary when offering a new job. But, if you want a promotion or raise at your current job, you're starting lower.
I could see taking a slight pay cut, but $11K sounds like a lot to me. But, everyone's situation is different.

Well the other thing that you have to consider is what tax rate you are at. So I make very little but because my husband makes a lot more, I get taxed at his rate. Frankly it's kind of annoying! So technically if I took an $11k pay cut I am actually only losing about $6k annually.

I would negotiate the pay as much as possible to see what you can get. I would not blindly accept the job without doing that first.
You have been looking for a wfh job for a while. I would take it.

I agree with all of what's been said so far. But it boils down to the fact that remote only positions are going to be harder and harder to find. Combined with the fact that you've been looking for so long I'd say you should take it.

This is true - our company just took a hard stand as to what their expectations are. We are hybrid with 2 required days. Now that the COVID emergency/pandemic is officially over, things are changing.

Are fully remote jobs that scarce? In my industry it’s hard to find a job that isn’t fully remote, even at executive levels.
I usually go in 2 days a week but no one bats an eye if I decide to work from home. I didn’t go in at all this week.

Yes - most jobs I have seen/heard of are hybrid nowadays.

I'm in IT and we still have the option of fully remote. Going in to an office is 100% optional until at least April. They re-evaluate every few months but they always keep it optional. That might change in the coming months but for now you don't have to go in.
They recently added a caveat that if your manager needs you to go see a customer or go to a meeting in person they can now require it- but just for that one event or meeting.
The thing is- many of our offices closed and are gone. The leases were up and they never renewed.
So I have no office option on Long Island anymore anyway. I can go to NYC office- but I'm too lazy for that now  and it's a hell of a commute to just sit in an office.
The other thing is- not sure if your friend is an engineer- they sometimes have to go onsite to customers if it's necessary. Even during the height of the shut downs we had rare occasions where techs had to go onsite.
