Organic baby food moms- please come in!!
What did you/ will you do when your DC starts eating finger and eventually all table foods? DD right now eats 95% organic, homemade (DD is 8 months). However, we are introducing more and more table foods, which she likes and we are not a 100% organic household by any means. What did you/ will you do? Are there certain items that are a MUST for you to remain organic?

We are are close to, but not a 100% organic household. I've started introducing a lot of table foods recently and they are organic. We have organic cheese, eggs, potatoes, bread, pasta etc.

Michelle, where do you get all that stuff? Trader Joes? What about yogurt?

I've been using the Yobaby plain yogurt (when I can find it) or Organic Goat Milk Yogurt from Whole Foods. Organic eggs they have at S&S or I go to Makinajian farm (it's right up the road from me). For potatoes they have organic at S&S or TJ's. Bread I get from Fairway.

Re: Organic baby food moms- please come in!!
For us, things that are always organic:
Fruits Vegetables Milk, Butter, Cheese, Eggs Meat
I will buy non organic stuff- for example, goldfish, eggo waffles, gerber puffs, juicy juice, cheerios, pretzels, stuff like that is just regular everyday brands.
Some things I buy that my kids (ages 2 and 13 months) love:
Stonyfield Farm, Nature's Promise, or Horizon Organic Yogurt
Cheese Sticks- Nature's Promise or Horizon
Annie's Snacks
Pirate's Booty
Nature Path Organic Pop Tarts
Cascadian Farms Granola Bars
Yummy Earth Organic Lollipops (2 yr old)
Maranatha Organic Peanut Butter
Newman's Fig Newtons
I would say we are 75% organic/natural and the other 25% is regular stuff. It just doesn't fit our budget or lifestyle to be 100% organic.
I do most of my food shopping at Stop and Shop- I love the Nature's Promise brand there. I will also take once a month trips to Whole Foods and Trader Joe's.

Sherry's Healthy Gourmet is right in Babylon Village and carries lots of organic foods. It's not as big as Trader Joe's but much closer to you.

This is a good percentage for us too. All our dairy, fruits, vegetables, & meats are organic. I shop at Trader Joe's, S&S, Wild by Nature, & whole foods.

Re: Organic baby food moms- please come in!!
I make sure that all dairy products are Rbst free (basically all but cheese is certified organic), including eggs. This for me is a must. I do not want DD eating any meat product/by-product that could possibly have growth hormone in it. All snacks and breakfast items are organic or homemade. Any beef she eats (ie. meatballs) is homemade from organic grass fed beef. It's expensive, but I only buy 1x per month. All pasta is organic whole wheat - but that's all I buy anyway.
All chicken and pork is antibiotic and hormone free, although not necessarily organic. I also buy frozen burritos and pizza pockets that are organic.
I'm a HUGE label reader. I don't buy any food product that is labeled to come from anywhere on the Pacific Rim. I don't buy anything with any soybeans or soybean product unless it is specifically labeled organic b/c all soybeans NOT labeled as organic are GMOs.
And I keep an eye on the top 10 list of products to buy organic.
HTH!!

Re: Organic baby food moms- please come in!!
Thanks! This is some really good info. I have started moving us over to more organic things. It's healthier for us & DD for sure. I think it will be easier to get us all on mostly the same page... I live in NJ so really trader joe's and whole foods are pretty much what's around (I'm in Bergen Co) unless I find another (the grocery stores have a bleh section here too...)
