Osama's death = Obama securing four more years???
A bunch of my FB friends said this.
I do not follow the logic.
I mean I am sure this will help the Presidents approval rating, but do you think it will guarantee him re election?

i don't think it will guarantee re-election, but it sure helps his odds by a WHOLE LOT

Re: Osama's death = Obama securing four more years???
Well bc is this I think his popularity is going to skyrocket and it couldn't have happened at a better time for him...shortly after he announced he was seeking re-election and only 16 months until the next election.
Part of the reason people questioned him was because of his lack of military knowledge and foreign affairs...now he has something to use.

I really hope not. He even said himself in his speech last night - he was told by his military leaders that THEY knew where Osama was. Obama didn't go out there and find him himself. The timing of all this is very convenient for him too.

Exactly. If he had fired the gun that killed him, definitely. But other than giving them the "go" he didn't physically do anything. It does help his ratings though

I think his approval rating will skyrocket..however the election is way too far away.. if unemployment and gas pricing are still where they are or worse..this wont be enough to get him reelected.

I think it definitely gives him a better shot at re-election. He can say that under his term, he gave the command and Bin Ladden was captured. He worked with Pakistan in this, so that's a relation that we did not have before. His approval will definitely jump up and as a result people that were on the fence about voting for him will probably do so.

Re: Osama's death = Obama securing four more years???
you know what it means
all the people who go back and forth on a daily basis about how they feel about obama based upon what bumper sticker was on the car in front of them... or what the blog they happened upon... or what a celebrity said...
THOSE people are SO excited about Obama today.
Because there sure was a lot of 'I' in that speech last night.
Does it lock him in? Yeah for the next week until people realize this isn't making gas cheaper and they start getting pisssed again.
In two years? Do I think this will be one of his 'major achievements' listed in his campaign for re-election? Absolutely. Because honestly I don't see him taking care of much else.
He just got a slam dunk. He's probably done working for awhile

I'm sure his approval rating will improve but that doesn't mean he automatically has my vote. This ountry needs a leader now more than ever.

He made a great accomplishment and certainly increased his odds. But to be honest, there are many more reasons to keep a President in office that have just as much impact on our country for the long term than this. I pray he can continue to fight the big fight and he is supported so that there is no significant retaliation - particularly on our soil.
I need to be impressed by how he handles employment, health care and gas prices too. If he can clean that up, I'd happily vote for him. If he can't, well its going to be a tough fight as far as I am concerned. One issue isn't enough.

He just got a lot more street cred being commander in chief of our armed forces.
He's got other work to do but no one can say he didn't participate in taking this psycho out.
He didn't have to pull the trigger. What president does in modern times?
This just shows how much we don't know about what goes into being President.
He didn't have to fight with congress about this one.

What President would got out there and fire the gun? Really!!! GWB did not go with a gun either to go after Saddam Hussein. I don't understand your argument.
I do think it "might" give him an edge but def. not secure him a spot for re-election. It's close but not close enough.
You just never know. But it def. will shut some people up for his campaign and make him a President who surprised those who thought he was too passive.

Really, I don't think anyone with half a brain thinks the president would fire a gun himself, come on now. And if I recall, GWB didn't get any edge at all for Saddam. All I heard was, "so what, there was no WMD in Iraq! This is Bush's war!" and so forth. If anything, it made alot of people attack him more, at least, that's what I remember.......

Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What a weird, weird argument
President Obama has been in the planning stages - with our military and intelligence services - since last AUGUST. It was Obama that made them come back again and again with hard evidence before he even called the first of six meetings, and it was Obama that ultimately made the decision on Friday that the evidence was sufficient and credible to go in yesterday.
It would also have been Obama whose head would be called for if the intelligence turned out to be wrong and they went in and killed someone who was not Bin Laden.
Like it or lump it, he had a major hand in this - for god's sake - give the man some credit

oh goodness, I hope people would be smart enough to never base any Presidential vote on a situation like this. While this is a great victory, that started with some unpopular decisions 9 years ago, there are much bigger fish to fry, in terms of what our Country needs.

I agree with this.
people called to question his resolve. his commitment to finding him. his ability to negotiate the military, and his foreign affairs prowess.
Obama just got a ton of respect from me. A TON.
I don't expect that people who disliked him before to jump on his bandwagon, but really, it's sad to see the people cannot give credit where credit is CLEARLY DUE.
it takes A LOT of guts to be the man to give that order. to send a team into a foreign country (on who's hire ups were COMPLICIT in hiding Osama) and order the kill.
and it will take a lot of guts to take the heat from any fallout.
he has been able to accomplish much more than he should have been, given the current climate in the Congress.
whether you like what he's been able to do or not is totally irrelevant.
hats off to you today, Mr. President.
and my God protect and keep all Americans and our Allies today. b/c it is NOT over.
