Our insurance WILL cover formula BUT...
it has to be "medically necessary"?
How do I go about doing this? The lady said the Peds' office has to put the claim in.

Re: Our insurance WILL cover formula BUT...
My doctor wrote a "letter of medical necessity" to the insurance company. It just stated she's allergic to milk protein a nd needs to be on a hypoallegic formula. They faxed it that day and Apria ordered and delivered our formula in a few days

Is he on Gentlease or any of the specialty formulas? Is he is, then call the peds office and tell them you need them to send you or the insurance a letter of medical neccesity ...They will write he needs to be on it b/c of gas issues, stomach issues, etc etc.
ITs done ALL the time. The peds office will know what to do.

Re: Our insurance WILL cover formula BUT...
Our ped had to write a letter of medical necessity, and then the insurance company faxed the ped some form they filled out and that was that. We do have a $40 copay each time we refill the rx at the pharmacy. But that's nothing compared to what Neocate costs out of pocket.

Your Dr. needs to write a letter of why your son needs to be on the formula - then you can fax it over to the insurance company.
