3 months (12 weeks) paid. But now that I think about it....what if you are on bed rest or unable to work a few weeks or so before the actual birth?

I would guess that you would then qualify for long-term disability.

According to my benefits, maternity is short-term benefits, and it only lasts for a certain amount of weeks.

Your FMLA leave starts from the first day you are out. So even if you are home on bed rest before the birth, technically you have already started your FMLA. Short term dis. is usually up to 6 months and then LTD kicks in. But of course check with your own co's policy...Chat Icon

The FMLA policy is scary because if you go on bedrest and then on maternity leave 12 weeks is all you get for job protection and the rest is the companies discretion if they want to hold your jobChat Icon That scares me cause I am high risk when it happens!

We got no paid leave at all, which is horrible IMO, and I have a union! Not a very good one, but still!

You need to use your sick time and vacation time. The one plus is that sick time rolls over from year to year, so if you work for the place long enough and don't use much sick time, you could have quite a bit of leave. Right now I have 55 business days just with sick time.

You can take off quite a bit of time if you choose to do so, this place will have a job for you for up to 1 year (though it may not be in the same location). Though most of that time would be unpaid.

Re: Out of Curiosity-- What's Your Company's Maternity Policy/Benefits?

This is how mine works:

1st week goes against PTO - 100% of my salary

weeks 2-4 - Disability at 100% pay

Weeks 5-8 - Disability at 80% pay

Weeks 9-12 - payment from my company at 100% of salary

Then I am taking 2 weeks off without pay

So in total, I get 2 weeks prior to my due date and 12 weeks after

My company doesn't have a maternity policy....basically you get the standard NYS disability, which I believe with the Family Leave Act, maxes out at 12 weeks.

same with the company Iwork for OH bUT they do give you a whole wopping 2 days pay the rest you have to use your vactiona nd pearsoln time if you have any
