I suffer from severe allergies (food & environmental), asthma & eczema & from what I've heard/read bf'ing should help to minimize the risk of our LO having the same problems or at least lessen the potential severity of them for him, so I'm determined to do everything that I can to make it work...

oh I never knew this- more the reason for me to want to do it! I have bad allergies, but funny I was BF.

Re: Out of Curiousity....

I bombed at breastfeeding DD... don't think that I'm going to try for this DC as I have to take baby asprin, which w/ the whole swine flu thing isn't good (asprin goes through the breast milk)..

although honestly- even if I didn't have to take the asprin, I'd probably just formula feed ayway

Re: Out of Curiousity....

I have to say I was unsure all throughout my pregnancy but as soon as I gave birth that all changed. She latched on a few minutes after birth and breast fed for 40 mins until they had to take her away to bath her, etc. That bond was incredible.

Breastfeeding for me has been great. It's so easy in the middle of the night, I was thinking how it's probably much harder to get out of bed and make a bottle in the middle of the night (several times). I also have minimal pain and my milk came in pretty quick (had her thurs afternoon and milk was in sun night), plus she's a good latcher. It's amazing feeding her what my body produces for her!

You can bf while taking baby aspirin, just so you know.

I bf ds for about 14 months. I had a hell of a time in the beginning and wanted to cry at times but it was so worth it. Dh and I both have terrible allergies and so far ds has none as of 19 months. He has only been on antibiotics once in his life for an ear infection. He loved nursing and I loved nursing him. I actually cried when he self weaned but he was 14 months and I was 10 weeks pregnant so the time had come.
I hope I get to bf this new baby too. I can't wait to look down and see my little one eating. I love the feeling I get when I look at my baby a know that my milk is making him/her grow big and strong. I have nothing against others ff'ing. You need to do what's right for you . But for me bf was the most wonderful experience and I can't wait to start again. Not looking forward to sore nips but hey it will be worth it Chat Icon

Re: Out of Curiousity....

I will breastfeed. I went to a breastfeeding class last week because I had a few reservations about doing so. All of my anxieties were alleviated as I became educated on best practices. I understand the benefits for both the baby and me, and for me this is the reason that I am willing to give up months of sustained sleep.
