Out of nowhere question - Re: Fur

If animals did not have to be tortured and killed to make a full length fur coat - would you wear one?

Say they could somehow be shaved like sheep to make the coat...

Re: Out of nowhere question - Re: Fur

I dont really like fur so I would say no.

I think back in the days when we didnt have other ways to make coats to stay warm, then fur was necessary but now a days, there are other materials for coats than the hide of an animal. I also think that way back when, animals were killed and EVERY part of them was used...not just the hide.

I would say no. Even if it wasn't done in a cruel way, I don't like the look of a fur coat...I can't really explain, but something about wearing an animal's fur weirds me out.

No. I hate fur coats. Not because I am an animal lover or anything, I just think they are gross looking.

Re: Out of nowhere question - Re: Fur

No. Even if the animals were just shaved, their is no way to tell the quality of life they are given by the fur manufacturer (dairy cows don't need to be tortured/maltreated for milk, and yet the lives they live are simply disgusting and saddening).

I think fur coats are hideous anyway.

I could never separate the image of an animal being tortured and a fur coat.

ITA. And I am a huge animal lover to boot. It jsut seems odd to me. I only have one real leather coat, and that it the one that saves my hide (my riding jacket). I am thinking of getting a kevlar one actually once I pop this kid out & start riding again.

I would if I were 5'9" rather than 5'2" - Some things you DON'T wear unless you're tall and thin........and I think a full length fur is one of them - No need for me to be walking the streets of NYC looking like a Bear Cub !! -

Re: Out of nowhere question - Re: Fur

I'm sure this isn't going to go over well- but I have one

it was my mothers- and while I would never buy one- it's about 20 years old and I would hate for it to go to waste

it's so warm- and I don't wear it often only on special ocassions

and I'm 5'2- so I don't agree with the 5'9 comment

Re: Out of nowhere question - Re: Fur

My mother wears oneChat Icon I have to admit - she looks damn good in it too.

I think they look nice, but I don't think I'd buy one for myself.

I have them too. They were passed down to me. I used to where them when we went into the city in the winter. But now I am afraid to wear them because some people can get carried away with their beliefs.

Re: Out of nowhere question - Re: Fur

No, I wouldn't wear one. I am of the belief that animal fur belongs on animals. Aside from that, they look absolutely hideous. I can't help but see bears walk down the street when I see someone in a fur. And don't get me started on man-fur. Disgusting.

That said, I couldn't imagine a way for them to make fur coats in a "humane" way. It seems virtually impossible.

Re: Out of nowhere question - Re: Fur

Definitely. Fur coats are really warm and I'm always cold! Unfortunately it is cruel, so I will continue wearing my wool coats with layers upon layers of sweaters underneath.

I've noticed a lot of women in my office wearing them this winter, which I find odd because I really haven't seen anyone wear a fur in years.

Re: Out of nowhere question - Re: Fur

Hmm, floor length?? I'm not really a big fan of the floor length look. I like the ones that go to the waist-- they are a little more trendy and "current" than the floor length deal...

I also like the "wraps" and stuff like that-- I would never in my life wear one b/c of the animals being killed but since we are playing hypothetical here then I like the wraps and shorter jackets-- but I'm picky about the kind of fur-- mink turns me off-- the only one I really like is fox... the color and feeling of it-- but again, I would never hurt Mr. Foxy.

I wish they could just shave them-- I wish they didn't have to die and that people wouldn't wear them Chat Icon

I used to have chinchilla's and every time someone saw them they were like "oh I would love to make a coat out of them" I'm like eww, thanks a lot- those are my pets!! Chat Icon

Neither do I. My FMIL has one, and she is 5'1 and it looks gorgeous.

Not PC, but I have full intentions of having a fur coat made.

I saw a beautiful shearded, white, full length fur on a tall brunette in Saks and I fell in love! I was just discussing it with my DH last weekend about going to a furrier to have it made. Chat Icon

I have to agree. Although I think they make 99% of people look dowdy they definitely look better on taller people.
