Not PC, but I have full intentions of having a fur coat made.

I saw a beautiful shearded, white, full length fur on a tall brunette in Saks and I fell in love! I was just discussing it with my DH last weekend about going to a furrier to have it made. Chat Icon

I hate to say it- but that sounds stunning and fab- maybe I have to take back my "I wouldn't buy one comment"

I might have to reconsider - if we don't move to FL

Beth...it was stunning! She wasn't overly done up, her hair was pulled back in a pony tail, had on small diamond earrings, but she looked like a million bucks with that fur coat!!!

Re: Out of nowhere question - Re: Fur

I have a mink stole that was my grandmother's....I only have it because it was hers and I've never worn it......I would never, every buy one......EVER.......Even though it's a hypthetical question and the animal wouldn't be tortured.....but I can't separate the image of the poor animal out of my mind.....No way....

I actually do not (my car is leatherette- ie faux), i wear all non-leather shoes and handbags (most designed by vegan companies).

The number of animals it takes to make a full length fur coat (generally over 40 little lives) is alot more than to make a pair of leather shoes (not that I thnk leather is right, but fur is simply inhumane). It is disgusting:

To kill the animals without damaging their fur, trappers usually strangle, beat, or stomp them to death. Animals on fur farms may be gassed, electrocuted, poisoned with strychnine, or have their necks snapped. These methods are not 100 percent effective and some animals "wake up" while being skinned.

Every year, thousands of dogs, cats, raptors, and other so-called "trash" animals (including endangered species like the bald eagle) are crippled or killed by traps.

I'm not going to argue this - its a no win argument...but to answer your question - yes I do have leather seats in my car - although it may be letherette - not sure...I don't have any leather furnishings at home...I understand that leather is just as bad as fur - I guess when I look at fur right away I think "Furry cute animal" - I don't get that reaction from leather - I know its just as bad...

Re: Out of nowhere question - Re: Fur

I don't know, honestly.

I think it would depend on if I'd actually wear it. Which for me, would be on formal occasions, which in all honesty, happens maybe once a year in the winter.

I've seen some gorgeous fur coats and wraps. But I think they might look out of place on me, unless I was going to a wedding or something.

I probably wouldn't get much use out of one. A fur coat would look out of place at my job, and I'm more of a jeans/t-shirt girl on the weekend. Fur and sneakers don't go together (imo).

Re: Out of nowhere question - Re: Fur

If I knew they were shorn like sheep I might, but the idea of wearing a fur hide, even if I thought the animal wasn't tortured creeps me out.

I am so often cold, so there are times like this past week or so when I think "Wow, this day is why people wear fur." In our area, however, I don't think there are that many days where I could justify wearing a fur. If I lived in Alaska or somewhere, I might consider it.....
