Outdoor cat issue!
I have been living in my new house for about a month, and have a furry friend who pays us frequent visits. The little guy sits on our front porch mat, sits on the back porch mat and sits on our cars. Now we don't feed it or pet it, but we literally have to step over it to leave our home and sometimes tries to get inside. I'm guessing the previous owner fed it.
Now I don't care so much about the porch sitting...even though the little guy looks EXACTLY like my chloe...it's scary! I have to triple check that chloe is no where near the door when I leave, cause then I see the cat and think chloe got out! So weird! The problem I am really trying to get my arms around is that he is walking and laying all over our cars (we have a car port, not a garage for now). We both have nice cars (not that, that even matters) and are very worried about scratches...and the paw prints up and down the vehicles are starting to make us really frustrated.
Our long term plan is to build the port into a garage but we have other priorities for now. Any ideas on how I can deter this cat from the cars?
I know the cat belongs to my neighbor. The other neighbor complained to them about the cat, but they are outdoors people and believe the cat should be outdoors.
Any ideas on how to live with this furry neighbor?

though I completely disagree with outdoor cats - especially in weather like this - I do feel bad you have to deal with it.
Try jiggling your keys when you see the cat around. That really scares my cat away.

They sell cat repellents in hardware stores, you could try putting that around the carport and your house. I've also heard that hot pepper works too...

Hot pepper is actually dangerous for them, they've been known to scratch their eyes out. Usually a clap and a hiss scares them off. It's a bit cold to do this know but in the warmer months you can use a super soaker or a garden hose.

I live in Atlanta, so it's not too cold for the cat...but I totally disagree with outdoor cats too.
But the hose idea is a great one...cause after a few times he may stay a little further away. I just dont want him to get scared while on my car and then run to get off and scratch it.
