Pain after IV
I was given IV fluids in the ER 2 weeks ago today. They had trouble finding a vein but ended up finding one in my hand. Since it was removed, my hand hurts... bad. It actually stopped for a few days but randomly it got much worse yesterday. It feels like one of the veins in my hand is swollen. The pain is from the knuckle on my middle & ring fingers down to my wrist. I'm trying to ice it but it increases the pain. I can't even bend my wrist.
Anyone have a similar experience after having an IV?

Pain after IV
I did!! Like 3 weeks ago. I was on an IV for 8 days and they blew my vein. I too was in serious pain and lost feeling in my fingers. A dr came to see me and told me that there was swelling on a nerve and it should go away in a few days. It took about a week. They had me massage the area a few times a day. It worked!

Re: Pain after IV
Yes, I've had that too. I was told that (while I was still in the hospital), anytime you have an IV in your hand it will hurt more and for longer than an IV in your arm. I don't remember what the reason was though.
Do you have any other symptoms, like bruising or discloration? Either way, if it's been 2 weeks, I think I would get it checked out.

Pain after IV
I saw my PCP today and she gave me a Rx for penicillin and told me to put a warm compress on it for 3-4 times per day. Hope this works because I'm in a looottt of pain.
