yes but she isn't running for President. and HAS executive experience. Senators vote yay or nay, they don't run anything. nor are they the sole reps from their states.
also, how much of a senator do you think Obama has been since he announced his candidacy in Feb of 2007?
if you want to bring up that he was a state senator, Palin served two terms on the Wasilla, Alaska, city council from 1992 to 1996, then won two terms as mayor of Wasilla from 1996 to 2002.
But With McCains age, you have to say people wonder about HIS VP.
ok yes Palin served in Wasilla Alaska...where the POPULATION IS 8500. 8500 PEOPLE!
So that IMO does not lead to having experience possibly serving the welfare of MILLIONS.
I mean the whole State of Alaskas population is equal to a small city anywhere else in the US!
So that speaks of her experience.
Then add the turmoil of her private life into the equation.
Her teenage daughters pregnant, Her son has DS and is high needs obviously, her family life seems to have its SHARE of drama, the CNN report her Husband had a DWI, and her sister has a custody battle with her BIL and one of Palin's aides had her BIL FIRED from the police dept. So she cannot obviously keep family affairs seperate from work ones....
I dont want this PERSON ( man or woman) one HEARTBEAT away from conducting U.S. foreign policy or managing Iraq.

I have to say, that I am quite upset (I don't know if that's the right word, but we'll go with it for now) at the number of people on here and the number of media who are eluding to the fact that she should be home caring for her family and not running for VP. Isn't this where we want our country to be heading? Where a woman can run alongside a man? I mean, I guess when people said they would love a woman to be in office (as Pres, VP, whatever), they were expecting her to have raised her family already or have none? I don't know. I just find the reactions to be interesting. I will NOT be voting for McCain, however, I do feel some sort of desire to defend a woman's place in our political system, regardless of the age of her children or the situation her children are in. And this is in no way trying to call anyone out, I am just shocked at the reactions on here, IRL and in the media.
I agree with you Rachel.
But I also think he could have chosen a "better" woman

Is it NOT sexist to say that men just can't do the housework and childcare like women? Because you can search these boards and find vents from many of us on here saying those exact things.
There are just as many of us who have husbands who are just as equipped, if not better, with housework and childcare. You just don't realize it because we don't complain about our husbands all the time.
A father can raise his children just as well as a mother, as long as he provides a caring, loving, nurturing environment. Matching clothes, and washing the dishes isn't what it boils down to.
I just find it VERY interesting that this wouldn't even be a question if it were a male candidate with the same family situation.

I'm sorry, but I think that a 4 month old baby with Downs needs his mom as well as his dad. This baby has a LOT ahead of him. I also think that a 17 year old pregnant teen needs her mom, too. If it's ignorant to think that, so be it. If it's sexist to say that, so be it. Personally, i think it's more about priorities than sexism.

I personally I have no issue with her being the VP
b/c I don't think she is going to get the chance
however- I do have a HUGE issue with people that have OUTDATED ideas
I don't think she is in touch with 2008
Teens have sex, sex ed belongs in schools - you are kidding yourself if you think otherwise
her own daughter basically just proved that- and hopefully she gets the hint
Outdated describes things perfectly, I was looking for the right word. On top of what you wrote, wanting to teach creationism in public schools and wanting to outlaw abortion even in the case of rape and incest just boggles my mind. I don't see how she can be any good for women. Especially the future generations.

I have no problem with the fact that Palin has a working uterus. I do not agree with her on too many issues. I could never vote for her because of that. And yes, I do not think she has enough experience, national or international exposure to do this job. Senators do more than cast votes, and they are well aware of the problems facing our country. The 18 month governor of Alaska knows about the problems facing Alaska. The fact that she is not even well travelled makes me question her ability to understand Americans fromt he other 49 states. Again, I question McCain's judgement in choosing her, especially now that there is talk she was never properly vetted.
Aren't there any more qualified women in the Republican party right now, uteruses in action or not, who could have run with him? Whatever happened to Christine Todd Whitman? Maybe she isn't conservative enough.
I think he wanted to capture media attention, which he has, and

I think it is foolish to judge people over their siblings or children's actions.
Does anyone here have a screwed up brother or sister? Have you ever tried to control every aspect of a teenager's life and succeeded? Did anyone here think their parents didn't understand and do something that their parents had specifically encouraged them not to do?
If you were to go through history most president's (and people) have that person in their family. Should John Adams not have been president because his son was an alcoholic? Our own president was an alcoholic who partied as he skipped out on National Guard duty. Am I the only one that remembers Billy Carter? Ted Kennedy? Every family has someone that we would not want as president.
Sarah Palin shouldn't be (vice) president for a lot of reasons. But her pregnant daughter or the fact that she is a woman with a special needs child is not one of them.
