It is amazing though that a woman was chosen!

Just unfortunate that there's an opportunity to show that a woman CAN do it all, and it's other women saying that she can't.

Just like all men aren't suitable for the position, just because she is a woman does not mean she is suitable for the position.

so we should support her b/c shes a women? Regardless of how we feel about her? Isisnt that the same thing in reverse.

Just because SHE IS a women, doesnt mean I have to support her.

One other thing that is missing is that how do we know what will happen with her children? How do we know that she doesn't have a large extended family that will help? Isn't that how things were only a few centuries ago? Perhaps there is a VERY strong family at home that has agreed to help out. I just feel that it is impossible to judge her based on this without all the information.

See, I'm not judging at ALL. Again, whether Palin were a man or woman, I just don't believe that ANYONE could be focused 100% on the job of being VP with what she's got going on right now. That is my issue with her accepting the nomination.

Back when Edwards decided to campaign after his wifes diagnosis, I felt the SAME way.

that's you're opinion and you're free to not vote for her.

McCain thinks she is capable, and it was his choice.

I think the fear is that putting the WRONG woman in the White House is going to set all women back. What if she gets in and she can't do it all? She is going to be torn apart, and then how long before either party has the guts to put another woman up?

IMO, she's trying to be a pioneer - she has to kick ***, there is no room for error.

I have no problem with the fact that she is a woman or a mom.

But she is nothing I stand for. I don't support what she beliefs in.

I feel she is totally unexperienced for the job.

I think you missed the point. the point Neenie was countering is that a woman should not have to give up her career to raise children, like Miss Jones believes.

I think the root of all of this is the unrelenting judging that women do to each other. This is something we've all talked about on here. Is it It is true that her family is facing issues right now. I have heard people IRL saying she should be at home bonding with her baby. This, in my opinion, is none of our business. I frankly do not think this is going to make people vote or not vote for John McCain and Sarah Palin for President and VP. I do not agree with her politics, but I have no right to judge her decision to accept the nomination of the Republican party.

and I feel I can judge ALL the candidates on their personal and professional actions when they could possibly be making many decisions for ME as chief of staff of the entire country.

Im SURE in response many things are going to be coming out about obama and Biden ( mccains camp will need to get focus off them) and as a democrat I will be listening and judging them just the same.

I agree that we MUST judge our politicians carefully before we go into the voting booth. I would rather judge candidates on politics than on family decisions.

I was thinking the same exact thing. If it was a man who had a similar family situation, I am doubting many people would say he should be at home with his family.

I agree. I just had this argument with DH's aunt this morning. If it was her husband running, no one would think anything of it. Would I personally do it? No, I plan to be a stay-at-home mom...but I'm certainly going to support a fellow woman's choice at a once in a lifetime opportunity.

I think family decisions play a part as well. They contribute to a persons Ethics IMO

I never said that. I think you're missing my point.

I've said it alot- i TOTALLY support people disagreeing with her policies, platforms, etc... and i totally support their ability to do so. i do NOT support voting for a woman just for the sake of it, and that's not what i'm saying here at all.

AND i even mentioned that there are certain things that i completely disagree with her on, as well.

What i AM saying is that she shouldn't be discounted from the position just because she is a woman and mother, and others have decided FOR her that she should be home tending to her families needs.

I think the whole idea that since she's a mother who has a pregnant teen and a baby with down syndrome means she should be at home is sexist b.s.

Re: Palin..just some of my own personal thoughts...add yours if you'd like...

Unfortunately, I didn't have time to read the whole thread (I have to go to bed early because schools tarts tomorrow!), but I wanted to give my opinion anyway...
I'm a little annoyed at McCain for choosing her. I don't know much about her, but I get the feeling she is an intelligent and hardworking woman, and I can respect that. But I really dont' think McCain chose her because he thought she was the best choice. I think he chose her because she's a woman (to get Hilary's votes), because she has a child with Down's Syndrome (for sympathy), because she's young (and he needs that!) and, well, because she's attractive (get the men's attention).
I'm not saying, if elected, she wouldn't do a fantastic job - we have no way of knowing that right now. And I'm super excited to have a woman running for VP.
I just feel badly for her that she was chosen for the wrong reasons (as I see it) and now her whole family is under the microscope, her parenting is being called into question, people are accusing her of neglecting her children for her carreer, etc. It's just a shame.
And it really really annoys me when people say she can't do a good job because she has 5 children. Because there is no way a man would get that reaction and that's just wrong! A father can raise his children just as well as a mother.

no one said she should be at home, but being VP of the US with a 70 Yr old President means responsibility , and it would be irresponsible to not judge her to make sure she was capable of doing that job.

I thought you invited people to share their personal thoughts as well?Chat Icon

I think this has been a fantastic thread- we are a diverse bunch of women who all share very different views. The problem is- can we all accept that others have different views from our own?

Oh, no, I absolutely started the thread for people to share their opinions, and I almost re-stated that just now, but didn't think I needed to. I just meant exactly what I said, that it was the reason why I started the thread. And that I was glad she restated itChat Icon
