Good Lord, pretty soon we're going to know what kind of cereal she eats in the morning and who she lost her virginity to.
Sarah Palin eats a twinkie after lunch every day- what does that say about her attitude toward obesity?!
Sarah Palin dyes her hair- is she embarassed about her early greying?! Will this offend the AARP set?
Sarah Palin will only wear thongs- no unsexy underwear for her! Discuss!
No I don't think it's relevent. Should we also check when Biden last updated his driver's license?

I'm addressing the 10% fact. If you live in the UK, you can go to Paris in a heartbeat. It's like going to Florida or even someplace closer. You need a passport to to from the UK to France, you don't to go from NY to Florida.
KWIM?
Exactly... How many in Europe have been to the US? India? Asia? Places that would cost the same amount of $$$ and time as say people in Ohio to travel to Paris?
ETA: I Am STILL LMAO at the Perillo tour comment. CLASSIC.

Re: Palin's passport
Here's a bit of perspective for you....I live in Michigan and until I found LIF I NEVER knew so many people that traveled to other countries or bought expensive shoes, or expensive purses. I think that this passport issue is a non-issue. I would LOVE to go to Poland, Germany, or Ireland and soon I will, but I can count on 1 hand the people I know who have been to another country. I think that you have to remember that LI is what most would consider upper class. This is not to provoke drama but the truth. $70,000 is considered the norm for a house here and dinner at a nice rest is about $70.00 for 2 people......Just try to remember that LI is unique and many people can not afford what many of you have

Re: Palin's passport
a lot of people who support Obama said they don't care about foreign policy - and things like, ask the ppl in NO if they care about Obama's foreign policy.
that said, I do find it odd. but also want to note that when she did get one, she used it to visit our troops in Kuwait

Re: Palin's passport
This was an issue when Bush was running - he had only been to Mexico before being elected President.
I'm interested in how many of the 'lower 48' states she's been to.
Nothing gives you perspective like travel - and as someone wanting to be the VP, I would want someone who has, another poster put it - 'looked outward.'
We are a global economy - so to me, it is an issue. I dont want my pres or VP to be just like me. I want them to be smarter, better, more articulate, more experienced, etc. I want my prospective Pres and VP to not only know about everything but to also have been everywhere. Unrealistic? sure. But it's what I want.

why is this an issue at all?? I didn't get a passport until I was 30 - and I only got one because DH really wanted to go to Spain for our honeymoon..... Or else I can definitely say I would not have one yet.

Sorry, I don't need a bit of perspective - I've already said I constantly defend the fact that so many Americans don't have passports. I understand that it's difficult when you live 5 hours away from an international airport and need to take a domestic flight, just to get a flight outside of the country - which then would take min. 3 hours in either direction just to get out of. I understand that a good portion of Americans have 2 weeks vacation a year and it'd just be ridiculous to spend 2 days of that trying to get somewhere. I understand that the country has within itself nearly every climate and you can go skiing or to a tropical climate without crossing any borders. I understand that it's expensive. But I think DandR said it perfectly:

I'm not saying i'd like the VP to know about everything and have been everywhere - but a bit of iniative would be nice. I just think that it shows that she wasn't considering this sort of position until it kind of fell in her lap and that she's got an awful lot to learn.

This could definitely be part of it, but I wouldn't say that it's necessarily only because LI is upper class. I sure didn't grow up that way, but I think it's more because many of us have parents, or at least grandparents that are immigrants. My first trip outside of the country was to visit family and friends from my parents' country. this can be said for MANY new yorkers.

i agree
and all the travel she has done have probably been with the govt, thus with a private govt plane so a passport was not needed
who knows, maybe she had a passport with her maiden name but got one with her married name either way, it could CARE LESS About this NON issue

Re: Palin's passport
I am not voting for them regardless - but I think this is kind of silly -
If she had been an elected official for 20 years and had never left the country, yes, I would have a BIG issue with that ..........But, being a mother of 5 in ALASKA and just beginning her political career, I wouldn't expect her to be a world traveler -

Can someone tell me why this is interesting? exactly my thought.
I also want to add , I have traveled a lot but some people have health issues or they just can't afford to travel outside the country. Not having a passport or not traveling outside the country doesn't define a person (I am not Palin's or any candidate's supporter , I am just saying)

Re: Palin's passport
DH didn't get his passport until he was 36 years old. Can you believe that I agreed to marry him anyway?!?
Oh, I have a passport that has lots of stamps in it. I don't think any of those stamps brings me any closer to running the country.
I don't think it's a big deal. She's been raising kids since she was 24 years old. I would imagine that it's not so easy traveling the world with small children.

I wasn't suggesting YOU needed perspective...I was just making a general comment. I agree travel does open your eyes to the world, but in the same breath does that mean because I have never left the US I am "less" qualified to do something? All I was trying to say is that the election is voted on by EVERYBODY and not everybody has means to travel out of the country. Yes I do have 2wks vacation but that's it. I do not get sick time or anything ese so if I get sick or have to attend to family matters that counts twords my PTO time. I was just trying to say LI is not like everywhere and MANY people can not afford a lot of what I see people doing, buying, or getting on this board. Like I said on fashion not long ago I NEVER thought "real" people bought designer anything becasue my "world" was $20 knock off's at Wal-Mart. I wasn't trying to offend you or anybody but bring in an eye that wasn't from LI, or New York.
