Re: Pancreatic cancer question...
My limited experience with it is that it's one of the hardest cancers to beat, especially at an older age. I can't speak to the time frame, but I know with my family member it was only a few months. I don't remember what stage it was caught at.
I'm sorry. I hope that's not the case for this person.

Re: Pancreatic cancer question...
I had to post this in response to the topic...this kid lives locally, it was really big news...amazing that a 15 year old has invented a simple test for pancreatic cancer using one drop of blood...hopefully this will be available soon and save many many lives...

Pancreatic Cancer Test
This kid is unbelievable!!!! Wow!!!!!!!
Here's hoping this can become a reality!!!!! Interesting the test only costs 3 cents. It will be jacked up to $3,000 easily.

Re: Pancreatic cancer question...
My uncle passed away from it. He had surgery to remove the tumor but had lots of problems with infections and lived very uncomfortably in and out of hospitals for the next 6 months. My cousins say they wished he didn't have the surgery, they may not have had as much time with him but he really suffered from it.
I'm so sorry, it's a really horrible disease

So.... The fall?
That's it?
There's no chance of beating it. Like... None, right? No one ever survived pancreatic cancer?
And it's weeks to months? Not years? Ever?
We lost my uncle to it last summer. He made it I think 2 years, but was very sick most of that time. He was not overweight at all to begin with, but got skeleton skinny

Re: Pancreatic cancer question...
Pacnreatic Cancer is a difficult diagnosis to predict although the outcome is usually not favorable. My aunt was given 3 months, but lived for one year. Most of the last 4 months was pain management.

Re: Pancreatic cancer question...
You described my grandmother to a T.
Overweight, 75 years old with diabetes for years. Weight loss started without her trying. Doctor (who will remain nameless) said good work, keep it up! My mom started to try to lose weight because she felt a little jealous and thought if her mom can do it, she could do it. This was December 2001.
Something happened in January 2002 that put my grandmother in the hospital. I'm not exactly sure and I think at first my parents were trying to protect my brother and I. But then by the end of that month it was real: Pancreatic Cancer.
She passed on June 24, 2002

I had Pancreatic Cancer at age 24. Stage 2. Last month my family threw me a surprise 40th birthday party. I was very lucky, almost a miracle I would say because survival rate is 4%. My doctors said I had my age on my side & was diagnosed very early on within a month. It was a fluke, the tumor was spreading to my liver, spleen & nerve in my spine & thats what made me seek help FAST, such pain that I would pass out. Catscan on Friday, surgery on Monday at NYU Medical Center. They removed the body & tail of the pancreas (head stayed because you cannot function without it) spleen & part of my liver. I have a whipple scar which looks like a Boomerang across my whole torso.Chemo followed. In most cases its a silent killer. I was not obese but pretty chunky, borderline diabetic. Today I still receive treatments at Monter Cancer Center & live a healthier lifestyle. Do NOT hesitate.. get help fast! I am soooo sorry
Your story is amazing! So glad you're doing well!

Re: Pancreatic cancer question...
DH's grandfather was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer a little after we were married in 2007. We were told for years that he had a few months left to live. He passed this March, right before our children's birthdays. DH missed our kid's birthdays so he could attend the funeral.
DH's grandfather lived about 5 years after he was diagnosed. He was a very healthy man before he got cancer.

Pancreatic cancer question...
My bf's father just passed away from pancreatic cancerMarch 4, 2013, 2 days before his 70th bday :'( He was diagnosed at stage 4 and lived 9 months after being diagnosed. He lost his appetite all together and eventually ended up just sleeping all the time until he eventually passed. He had some blood at the end when he went to the bathroom, turned out that the mass torn his intestines and they could not stop the internal bleeding the mass caused. He was then placed on hospice and sent home to live out his final days. The hospital gave him 2 weeks from then, he lived 2 weeks 3 days more :'( When he couldn't eat anymore, the hospice nurse told us to give him shakes with some of ensure supplement drink mixed in to give him something. The hospice people were very helpful and knowledgable. As much as we didn't want to hear what they were saying, looking back to what they told us matched to a T. Honestly, this is how it progressed for him....he had stomach issues, turned yellow, had stent put in, started losing a lot of weight, got angry at everyone around him, wanted to be left alone, swelled up in the face a couple times, and slept a lot. He slept more and more until eventually he would b awake for maybe 5 mins a day, then he passed. It was heartbreaking and so emotional for all

My god mother was diagnosed and so far is in remission. she went through hell and back; the tumor was in a place that wouldnt be safe to operate, but i think with the chemo she said it went from a walnut to a peanut in size.
This has been 2 years already

Wanted to update. It's my stepmother. She's staying very positive and level headed about this. Needless to say, this is pretty devastating.
