Panic attack UPDATE

Last night I had an awful panic attack and now I feel hungover from the stress. My DH was hysterically crying, he just lost it when i started to shake and I lost color in my face ...he cant take it anymore. I am so upset with myself. I really was doing so well and now I feel like I am back to square one.

UDATE:I have a medical office at my job and I went over there today bc the DR's are amazing and I told the Dr about last night and how long this has been going on and she also suggested some therapy and gave me some names but she also talked about meditation she said that she doesnt want to put me on pills since it only has happened 3 times in the past 2 years. So I did some research and I think I am going to check this place out on Sunday Meditation Center ...what do you think ?

Re: Panic attack

Can you contact your previous therapist and request a referral?

What in your schedule does not allow for you to attend therapy?

Ask your primary care physician for a psychiatrist referral. Your PCP (or the psych referral) should also be able to refer you to a psychologist.

Gotcha. Yeah, therapists need to have some room for flexibility as well. Maybe you can find someone near your job? Or who is availlable on weekends.

Keep in mind that therapy doesn't have to be forever. But in the grand scheme of things, what is more important: missing a couple of ski weekends or you/your family's sanity?

Why don't you find a therapist in the city then?

Re: Panic attack

You also might want to attend Emotions Anonymous. There are meetings all over Long Island and Manhattan.

Re: Panic attack

What about getting a DRin NYC, you can run over after work, once or twice a month should be fine.
When it's crippiling like you described it should become a priority. Like a PP said,it is not forever, but you have to find out what isdoing this to you. Good LuckChat Icon

I completely agree. Right now, it sounds like your situation is dire. You need to focus on your mental well being and the well being of your family. After that gets squared away you can worry about going skiing on the weekends.

Re: Panic attack

I really hope you feel better soon!

FH works out of town so he does many of his therapy sessions over the phone. It's not ideal, but maybe that could work for you.

Re: Panic attack

Therapy is just like any other doctor appt. It's important that you keep them as much as possible. I agree, go to someone in the city. Also, your regular doc should be able to put you on something for anxiety without having to go to a psychiatrist.

That therapist that couldn't handle someone who would have to reschedule from time to time sounds like someone I couldn't go to.

I also agree that this should take priority over a lot of things right now. Get the help you need.

Good luck.
