Panic is starting to set in...

Well ladies... My DH is still unemployed and what money we had in the bank is just about gone. I don't know what we're going to do. I can't believe this is happening. He's been out of work now for 3 months. It's amazing how things can change just like that. Just when things were getting better again for us, this happens. I should be used to it by now. Everytime something wonderful happens to us something bad happens. But, it is my DH's fault so it's not really bad luck. The more and more stress that builds the more and more I keep thinking how could he let this happen to us knowing what was at stake? The blame and resentment is there and it just won't go away. Chat Icon Sorry ladies... I guess I'm having a bad day again! Chat Icon Thanks for listening!

Oh... and today is DH's b-day and I don't feel like doing anything for him. I haven't even bought cards for him yet. Anyway... thanks!

I remember your story a few months back but I dont know your circumstances. Why did he not return back to work yet? Maybe he can try finding something for the holiday season. I always hear home depot pays well. Hope all works out for you and your family!

I definitly second Home Depot and they offer health insurance, not sure if that is needed or not. What field is he in that he can not find a job? I really feel for you and I get sad everytime you post a vent because you seem to do so much for your family and you give so much also.

Re: Panic is starting to set in...

I'm so sorry this is happening to you. I know how scary it can be to watch your money dwindle away. My DH was also out of work for 11 months this year! Since your husband is not working during the day, can you take the boys out of day care until he goes back to work? Maybe that could help with the money. If not, maybe you should tell him that he has to go work SOMEWHERE to bring in money. Where exactly in NC do you live? My sister lives in Raleigh and works in a nursing home about 15 minutes from her. If you want, I can ask her if there are any open positions at her place.

I hope things get better for you soon. Chat Icon

Re: Panic is starting to set in...

Thanks everyone!

My DH has applied to Home Depot, Circuit City, etc. No one is calling! Chat Icon His resume is out at over 30 companies right now. He does Desktop Support. (Computers) He doesn't have the certifications that a lot of companies are looking for. We were never able to afford to get him certified. It's very expensive. The only hope we have right now is that he did do a phone interview with UNC last Thursday and they're "suppose" to call him this week for a face to face interview. We're praying that he gets one. If he got the job the starting salary would be $10K more than when he was working at Duke. This is the only "interview" he's received so I can only hope for this one job. We really need this. But again, I'm not getting my hopes up because that happened with the last job opening that he had "connections" with. It never happened and we were counting on it. Anyway, thanks for all the well wishes and thoughts. Let's pray this job will work out!!! Chat Icon

I am so sorry you are going through this.
He should be able to find Holiday help.
It may not be much but it is a little something.
Have him try Sears, Home Depot, Lowes, Kohls anywhere - even if it is doing stock work, it is something until he finds something in his field.

Re: Panic is starting to set in...

Check out CSC. They are a computer service company. My company outsources to them to handle all of our computers. They are a huge company. I can't guarantee anything, of course, but it's something to look into.

http://careers.csc.com/index.shtml

I was unemployed for several months a few years ago. It turned out to be the best thing for me. My old company folded, so there was nothing I could do about it. My new company is so much better, and I like my job so much more now. Hopefully things will work out for the best.

Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon I can only imagine how hard this is for you with a new baby at home too. My Dh was unemployed for 8 months a few years back. My advice is do not let him sit home and get depressed. There has to be something he can find no matter what the pay is at this point. My Dh was able to drive for an airport car service and make some extra money while still having free time to send out resumes.

I hope something happens soon. I would tell DH to just grab anything to get through the holidays though. Either that or have him take care of the boys and save the $$ from daycare! JMO

Re: Panic is starting to set in...

I'm so sorry you are having a hard time with this. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon I know how are feeling right now. Since January 2005, one or both of us has been employed. I will tell you that times were really tough. We exhausted all of our savings and had to take help for our parents some months to pay our expenses. This is a test of your faith, so don't give in to to fear. Everything will work out. Don't let the panic put more stress on your relationship. Speaking from experience, you don't want to go there. While I know the fact your DH is not working was caused by something on his part, but try to let it go. Reminding him about it or holding on to the resentment will keep you from moving forward and will just make him feel worse about the situation. All the rejection really starts to wear on a person's esteem and as his partner in life it's your job to help him stay optimistic even if you are totally not there yet. I hope and pray that things turn around for you guys soon. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

DH is currently looking for an attorney position but bc of the holiday most firms aren't hiring. So he got his subsitute teacher liscense for the Chicago public schools. They pay $100/day for 6.5 hours. It's decent money while he's looking for a job. IS that something your DH could look into? I know the requirement vary from state to state.

I agree too. Why shell out money for daycare if he can be home with them. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Panic is starting to set in...

That's the thing... even the retail stores aren't calling back!!! Chat Icon

We have to put them in daycare because if we don't they'll lose their spot and they'll have to be on a wait list. And if DH gets a job, we won't have childcare. Chat Icon Caiden is still in FT because we have a great rate since he's been there over 2.5 yrs. If I pull him I have to pay the current tuition. Connor is only going P/T. DH stays home with him 2 days a week. (A whole other issue!) We just wanted to hold his spot. They have a lot of babies starting in January so they wouldn't of had an opening for him. I can't find another daycare because they are all hundreds of dollars more than this place. We can't win!!!
