Re: Panic is starting to set in...
What about going to Costco? or Sams Club? Is he applying in person? Sometimes that helps than doing it online.

This may be another avenue but maybe try some public libraries. They may have openings for Computer Administrators/tech support. The pay may not be that great but its a start.

Re: Panic is starting to set in...
Do you have anything around the house you don't need or want anymore that you can sell on Criagslist? That might help bring in a little extra cash.
Also when it starts snowing DH can shovel some driveways in the neighborhood.
Keep your head and spirits up. Everything will work out.

Re: Panic is starting to set in...
Hang in there he will find something soon. During the holidays alot of employers don't recruit but in January there is usually a bunch of new jobs since it is the new year and people have new budgets, etc.......

Re: Panic is starting to set in...
I just want to say thank you to all of you!!! You're all so very supportive and that's what I need right now.
I'm praying my DH hears back from UNC today. They told him on Thursday (last week) that they should be calling to schedule a face to face interview by the end of this week.
Anyway, thanks again it really means a lot to me!!!

Thanks everyone!
My DH has applied to Home Depot, Circuit City, etc. No one is calling! His resume is out at over 30 companies right now. He does Desktop Support. (Computers) He doesn't have the certifications that a lot of companies are looking for. We were never able to afford to get him certified. It's very expensive. The only hope we have right now is that he did do a phone interview with UNC last Thursday and they're "suppose" to call him this week for a face to face interview. We're praying that he gets one. If he got the job the starting salary would be $10K more than when he was working at Duke. This is the only "interview" he's received so I can only hope for this one job. We really need this. But again, I'm not getting my hopes up because that happened with the last job opening that he had "connections" with. It never happened and we were counting on it. Anyway, thanks for all the well wishes and thoughts. Let's pray this job will work out!!!
Because it is the end of the year, a lot of companies are not hiring in order to make end of year numbers. Dh works for Kaplan, Inc., in NYC and they just promoted him but it will not take effect until Jan 15 due to this. Hang in there. FM me his resume and I can have Dh pass it to the help desk dept. I know they are hiring after January. Can you hang in there until then? Maybe he can work in retail until January?
DH and I went through a tough time a few years back and he had to drive a taxi for a local cab company that did airport runs ONLY. He made $150 cash a day and took home $900 a week over the holidays working 6 days a week, 10 hour days. I know it not a glamorous job, but I was proud of DH for doing that for two moths until a great company hired him. HTH you are in my prayers
