Parents and In-laws
So my MIL is INSISTING on coming over tomorrow. Sigh.
She says we’re avoiding her and we think she’s going to bring the virus into our house. Honestly, we’re just taking social distancing very seriously, and we don’t want to put HER at risk. BTW, both her and FIL are immune-compromised.
Are we being crazy and overly-cautious? Are you guys seeing your elderly parents/ grandparents?

Re: Parents and In-laws
My mom's job is essential and she is around a good amount of people so for now we are distancing from her with no contact.
My father in law is in a nursing home so not visiting him.

No, you are definitely not crazy or overly-cautious. We are not seeing each other in my family. We are basically assuming each of us is infected, or the other one is.
Will she just come over regardless? I think DH needs to speak up. Good Luck.

I'm telling you these seniors are worse than the college seniors! I see so many people on FB complaining about their parents not listening. My mother included

I would say no and have your husband put his foot down. Don't let them in. That is so rude and inconsiderate of her to not respect your wishes. Facetime with them all they want but face to face contact should be out of the question.

When them and all of their friends start dying maybe they will feel differently. My inlaws almost got on a plane and flew home from florida before we pleaded with them not to. I am not scared of getting this virus myself, I am afraid of passing it on to someone that it kills!

Sorry, no. She’s right, you are avoiding her—and everyone else.

Put your foot down
I had to so that myself with my inlaws. My DH wouldn’t so I took it on myself.

Nope, not seeing my mom or my grandfather. I still have to go to work, definitely don't feel comfortable transmitting anything.

We are not taking any chances despite how helpful it would be to have my mom help out while schools are closed. I outright told my mom no visits at all and the very next day we got a letter from dd principal asking us to voluntarily quarantine bc my daughter was exposed to a staff member who tested positive for COVID- 19. Better to be safe than sorry.

haven't seen either sets of parents or grandmother since the 14th. my mom was asking about Easter (my birthday) and I told her no way. We call and video chat and will see them in person when this is over.

Re: Parents and In-laws
I live with my in-laws and keep my distance since they insist on going out even though they are both immunocompromised. I see my parents from a distance. I had to pick up stuff at their house and have stuff sent there. With my new babies coming, they will see them in pictures, FaceTime or through the car window as of now until we get orders of what pediatrician thinks.
Both my parents and inlaws are not taking this serious, but then they tell me stories of their friends who are worse then them.

my parents live really close by to us. They came by the other day for a bike ride- no kisses or hugs. We rode halfway, met up with them, kept riding and talking a bit, and they continued their ride home. Aside from that one day, we haven't seen them.

We live together with my in-laws and I have been super concerned that we might bring it to them. So unless we are just running out to pick up groceries or drive thru DD we don't go anywhere.
I was mad at DH for going in to work last Tuesday bc he could bring something home and turns out someone in his office called out sick that morning due to fever and cough.

FIL lives in FL but he extremely high risk if he catches it.
MIL lives near by we never really visited her (actually I never do but DH rarely does ) she is also high if she catches it (she has COPD plus a slew of other issues)
my parents live near by and we are not seeing them though I am sure they want us there and i wish we can go. besides age my mom is immune compromised so i wont risk it.

Please! Don't get me started! My parents were jet setting all over the place the entire months of January, February and the beginning of March and were completely oblivious to what is happening. They are driving me nuts! They FINALLY self quarantined last Tuesday.
We have been facetiming them. If we were doing a bike ride or something outdoors, I would not care if they met up with us with social distancing of course after next Tuesday.
My MIL works in health care and has been exposed. If she was insisting on coming to visit I would have a fit. I would tell her she can stay in her car and the kids can talk to her from the front lawn. Luckily I don't have that problem because my MIL could not care less about seeing my kids. This whole thing is like a dream come true for her because now she doesn't have to reach into her bag of excuses to not see us. LOL

My dad usually comes to visit every week. I told him to stay home. My inlaws have not been out and think they are NOT allowed out. They need to stay home because they are always getting sick and dont have great immune systems.

My parents don't live in the same state as me. But, my mom won't go outside anyway. Not even to walk her dog on her dirt road. She thinks the wind will shoot the CV up her nose.

Re: Parents and In-laws
We do not live near our parents. My parents are not visiting my nieces and nephews, but as of a few days ago, my dad was still out and about. Now with Matilda's Law, I think he is being smarter. My ILs are not leaving their house unless they need food.

Re: Parents and In-laws
She is seriously nuts! She keeps calling my sister here in NY telling us to NOT go outside under any circumstances. She needs to turn off the TV, get off FB, and get outside! SO many of my family and friends from Michigan are thinking like this. They really think it is exhaled from every person and if you go outside you will just be inhaling it all. I don't get it. It's absolutely insane!

Wow. I'm surprised she hasn't told you to wrap your house and all doors and windows in plastic sheeting yet.
