Re: Parents of Girls

I am going to let DD decide when and if she wants them.

I had them done when I was in kindergarten, the piercing was a mess. I didn't want to let them finish the other ear and the woman told me that if I didn't let her do it, Santa wouldn't bring me anything.

They wound up getting infected and it was painful. I didn't get the courage to do it again until I was 13

Re: Parents of Girls

My older DD asked to have hers done at 4 1/2. She barely cried, and took good care of herself. She turned them on her own and sat nicely while I cleaned them. I like the fact that if her earrings hurt or if something felt wrong she was old enough to tell me.

Re: Parents of Girls

I am also going to wait until she is old enough to ask. This is what my parents did and it worked. I was six. I asked for them. I knew what was involved in cleaning them and I did it.

Re: Parents of Girls

My eldest daughter doesnt have her ears pierced. We decided to wait until she was old enough to make the decision herself..at 14 she still doesnt want them pierced. The twins had them pierced when they were about 2 1/2. I wouldnt suggest doing it at that age. It becomes an issue when it's time to pierce that second ear...I should of gotten them done before then or waited until they were older.

My advice is if you are going to do it do it when they are really really little or wait until they are old enough to make that decision.

Nope, opted to wait on the piercing.

I don't know how to explain it, but everytime I looked at my little girl, she just looked so pure & innocent without them. Sounds kooky, but I felt like it would be taking away the "babyness". The odd thing is I think other baby girls look adorable with them.

I got Julia's ear's pierced when she was 3 months, I wanted to get them done when she was a baby because she didn't know where her ears where yet so she couldn't play with them and get them infected.

I would get them done while she is young and won't play with them.

Ditto!

Re: Parents of Girls

DD will be turning one in a few weeks. Shortly after that she has her one year check-up. I would like to do it around this time. I don't even know id her Dr's office does it.

I feel that if you wait too long then its really up to the child when she wants to get her ears pierced. I know several friends who have 3 or 4 year olds and they are waiting for their DD's to ask them for peirced ears.

I have 2 girls and no, I will not pierce their ears at a young age. I think it's fine for other babies, but not mine. I will wait, or give them the option, maybe for their Communions or around that age if they would like. I can't say I have a particular reason--I just wouldn't like it.

Same here for me. My Mom let it be my decision when I could pierce my ears so it was really my first big decision I made for myself and I very much appreciate her letting me have the option to decide. I plan on doing the same with DD because of how much it really meant to me

When she is old enough we will discuss it then b/c she might never want them.

I knew a number of people growing up that had to have their ears repierced later in life b/c they had it done very young and when they grew up they weren't centered on the lobe.

Also, I had a few friends who tore their earlobes when their earrings got caught on clothing or something else on the playground in elementary school.

Not until she's old enough to ask. I personally don't like the look of babies with pierced ears.

We don't have (and are not having a girl) BUT if I did I would pierce her ears when she was a baby. Just personal preference.

NO, we are waiting until she is old enough to make the decision for herself. My parents did that for me, and I was old enough to appreciate them and care for them. That's the way we'll go.

this is my thought process also!

Re: Parents of Girls

I haven't gotten Ella's ear pierced yet. I don't want to make the decision for her, I'll let her decide in a few years if she wants them done. Then we can make a big day of it, and she can pick out special earrings.

plus, its one less thing for me to take care of now Chat Icon

Re: Parents of Girls

I got both my girls ears done the same day they got their 2 month shots. My 1st DD was just shy of 2 months and my second DD was 2 1/2 months. I just like the way it looks so I did it. My mom took me when I was 5 (and asked) to get mine done. I remember it but it wasn't a big deal. I didn't feel like me asking for them made that moment special and I didn't feel like it was that big of deal. So I saw no need to wait for my girls. I think they look cute with them. I don't really care what other think or say (I do get rude comments). I am the mommy so it was my decision (and DH's, but he didn't care either way as long as I was the one who took care of them).
