Parents that had an early potty trainer

DS will be 20 months tomorrow. We introduced the potty about 2 months ago, letting him sit on it at night before bath time. He loves it and now will go #1 and #2. He will communicate to me that he needs to go, but not all the time. My question is seeing he is so young, should I try pull-ups or go straight to underwear? I know "they" say pull-ups aren't good, but I just feel he still so young and he talks but not well yet. He also doesn't pull off his own pants, I have to help him everytime. Really not sure what the best move is at this point.

I do not have an early potty learner at all-he's almost 4 and just getting to this point. Lots of stops and starts on our end.

But if your DC is going on the potty pretty regularly and can communicate when he needs to go, I would try underwear during the day. We had DS go about every half hour when he first started wearing underwear, and eventually he learned what it feels like to go and started going on his own. We had to teach him how to pull his own pants down (that was easier) and up. I'd use sweats and the like until DC gets the hang of it--jeans or anything with buttons can be tricky.

You can try them--if it really doesn't work you can go back. I would probably use a diaper at night for a bit, especially if DC is sitll in a crib and can't get up.
