Passed a house last nite with Christmas lights all lit up
I'm talking like a Vegas light show...i guess everyone's starting early this year??? Anyone else have their's up? I can see putting them out so you're not freezing your butt off, but not lighting them up til December...anyone else see any yet?
ETA: IT doesn't annoy me...as some people's responses seem to indicate...i was just surprised to see them so early

Re: Passed a house last nite with Christmas lights all lit up
I've seen quite a few myself! There is a house behind us that we can see from our bathroom window that is all done up already. DH had mentioned putting up our lights only now before it gets cold but I told him after Thanksgiving. We'll probably start with the lights this weekend since it's going to be nice.

Re: Passed a house last nite with Christmas lights all lit up
Our neighbors put lights up last weekend already! It's bad enough that the stores start Christmas earlier and earlier every year... now the neighbors have to do it too?!?

Re: Passed a house last nite with Christmas lights all lit up
I am a firm believer that Christmas is for December only. Can't we enjoy Thanksgiving without having xmas jump the gun? It's overkill to put them up this early IMO.

Re: Passed a house last nite with Christmas lights all lit up
I have them up, but they aren't plugged in. Who cares if people chose to celebrate early? Are they really bothering people by others being in the holiday spirit? With everything going on in the world today, this is the last thing anyone should really complain about. I dont mean to start drama. This is not intended for the OP either.
People will find anything to complain about these days

Re: Passed a house last nite with Christmas lights all lit up
There's a house all lit up on Johnson Ave. in Sayville that has a countdown to Christmas in lights on the fence. Saw that this weekend.

I've seen a couple. I think starting now is OK, but there were some lit up right after Halloween which I thought was way early.

Re: Passed a house last nite with Christmas lights all lit up
I feel like some people are just SO affected by the media. They start seeing Xmas ads in Octoboer and feel like they are behind the gun if they don't get the lights out sooner.
How come nobody wanted to "celebrate early" like 20 years ago?
It's only now- the stores try to rush the seasons to fuel their sales and the people follow along like sheep.
I am all for those communities in other states where they have ordinances against decorating before Thanksgiving. I don't want to see Christmas lights in mid November. Sorry.

I believe that you should wait until after Thanksgiving... get through one holiday before we start getting ready/celebrating another. If you want to put them out, at least wait to turn them on.

i have no problem with holiday spirit.. but can we get through the holiday before Christmas before we actually start on the next one?
For me, it takes away the specialness of the holiday when all the decorations and hype are around for so long. By the time christmas actually gets here, it's old news!

Yes! I understand that you want to hang them when it's still warmer out. I know how horrible it is to hang lights when it's freezing and windy. If there is a nice day and you have time-that's great. But we always hold off on lighting them.
I feel like Thanksgiving doesn't count anymore. Because retailers can't prfoit off Thanksgiving as much. And that's a shame because Thanksgiving to me is nicer- more about family, giving thanks-not about greed and what you can get and how much you can buy.

me too! me too!
it's definitely b/c of technology & the media that we start thinking about holidays earlier than normal... think about it.
these days we have information at our fingertips... we're manic... just the way it is.
i don't see why people get so upset by it... whatever... it's a happy/festive time.. I say BRING IT ON

totally agree... though I don't think anyone was truly complaining or affected by it... Just seemed strange to them
