Re: Payroll Tax increase...how will it impact you?
I saw a $57 decrease in my check....So approx $115 a month and a tad more for DH...so..... a total of approx $250 a month. That blows!

I am afraid to look at my pay stub but regardless of the extra tax it wont impact me or my lifestyle. After my next raise this summer I am going to assume that it will make up for all or a good portion of it.
I still havent looked at my paycheck so I am not sure how significant but I am also realizing that the combined impact of my DH's check also is going to hurt. I am getting really depressed over this. I will get a raise this summer but it would be nice to get ahead and not end up with the same net amount.

It won't effect my family too much. It will hurt my sisters who are single moms that are barely able to get by as is.

I don't get paid until Jan 15th. I'll let you know.
Should be 2% less, no?
I also increased my FSA, decreased my 401(k) temporarily and I heard the transit benefit changed.

Payroll Tax increase...how will it impact you?
I just got paid today and it was about $115 less including the slight increase in medical benefits, DH gets paid on the 15th so we'll see what his is but being that I get paid bi-weekly it's going to work out to about $250/month. On the upside my raise doesn't get processed until the next pay period so I should end up slightly ahead. DH's raise doesn't go through until 4/1 so we should be back to where we started from. It sucks mainly because obviously I would rather have that money than not but it isn't going to kill us or change our spending habbits.

I completely forgot about that... I maxed out depedent care and FSA so that is another $7500... and I'm only seeing a slight decrease in my check... I'm not going to pretend I understand paycheck deductions Maybe it bumped me down into the next lowest tax bracket?

Re: Payroll Tax increase...how will it impact you?
This made my bills due for tomorrow short, so now I have DH running around today moving money from one bank to another.

Re: Payroll Tax increase...how will it impact you?
awesome, -$53.27 biweekly! DH should be about the same. I wonder if this will affect my commission too?
So we are looking at at least $210.00 per month - gone. peanuts right? whats another tax. and then another. and then one or two more.

For the 60000000000th time. It's NOT "Another tax" It's the SAME tax you've been paying for decades before it went on a "holiday" which was NEVER been able to be permanent.

it doesnt matter, less money is LESS money which hurts no matter how you spell it.
glad you are enjoying the the 2% increase. And I haven't been paying into anything for decades. When was the last time this "tax" was not on "holiday?"
add this to increased health insurance premiums. increased property and school taxes. NO raise in years. cost of living skyrocketing (gas, food, water, electric, daycare) its all gravy baby

Its 2% so if u make $100k its $2000 a year or $38.46 a week. This was a temp cut anyway so no one should have been depending on it
Can someone explain why my DH just called and said his check was $60 less for the week? So it'll be $240 less a month...
There is no way DH makes $100k+ ...We do our taxes together. I know what he makes.. and at $60 a week that would mean he makes OVER 100k...there is NO WAY - he had 14 weeks of furlough this year. even at full employment he would barely make 100k..
Help? lol

Have him compare his paystub to a previous one to find out where the differences are.

I'm definitely sorry for all that and I know it sucks, but I think language matters. Saying "another tax" and especially "what's another tax and another?" makes it sound like this is a tax that has been added and that the government is just adding on taxes and taxes. There are SO many people who are looking at their paychecks today who don't understand why it's gone down, and I don't want to add to that confusion. The truth is that it's a tax that maybe not you personally, but that the working public has been paying at 6.2% rate for I don't know how long but for 2 years we paid it at a 4.2% rate and now it's going back to 6.2%. It's not a tax hike, it's not part of the fiscal cliff and it's not a new tax
