PCOS...is there medication to control all the wonderful symptoms
So i am having my bloodwork done soon, my doctor def. thinks i have PCOS. So before i go crazy researching i figured i would get the most info here.
is there any medication that helps control irregular/heavy periods?
and what about the weight gain? since coming off BC pills i have been packing on the pounds
im going to take a break from TTC and try to get my body healthier and was just wondering if they will give me anything to help if i do indeed have pcos.
thanks

Re: PCOS...is there medication to control all the wonderful symptoms
Birth control is the only thing that has ever kept my PCOS symptoms at bay. The instant I stop taking them, I pack on the pounds, the hair growth starts up again, etc. It really sucks! I am not a candidate for Metformin, but if you are, that can definitely help you. Isn't PCOS grand?

Low carb diet. Try the weight watchers core diet (if it's still around).

Re: PCOS...is there medication to control all the wonderful symptoms
I never had a regular period unless I was on BCP. Then, I went off BC to TTC and Dr. B put me on Metformin. After 6 months of taking 1500 mg/day,. I started having a period regularly. They were very long cycles but they were consistent. ~ every 50-60 days.

Re: PCOS...is there medication to control all the wonderful symptoms
I was diagnosed with PCOS at the age of 12. BC seemed to work best for me to regulate my periods. Metformin was also used but not until I started high school. And of course watch the carbs! They are real enemies to PCOS girls!

I used a combination of BCP and spironolactone, which worked beautifully.

Re: PCOS...is there medication to control all the wonderful symptoms
birth control and metformin are the only ones i know but they dont really "control" the symptoms. since PCOS is so many different combinations of symptoms, there isn't one "cure all."
