Peanut Allergy & school question
My DD was diagnosed with a peanut allergy. We carry an epi pen and Benadryl at all times. When I contacted her first step program to ask about notifying patents and storing an epi pen they told me patents would be "encouraged" to send peanut free snacks and my DD could keep the epi in get back pack and if needed administer to herself. Does anyone know where I could find our rights as a peanut allergy family and/or the rules her school is required to follow?

Re: Peanut Allergy & school question
In my DD's elementary school they have a separate table for children with allergies at lunch. Otherwise, the children can bring in what they want and the school even has PB&J sandwiches on the menu. This may help:

I'd start there as well. Look into section 504 plans and section 504 in general. I have heard so many accounts about how each school handles food allergies.

Re: Peanut Allergy & school question
In my DD's nursery and K both places had to lock up her epi ( I was not concerned as she is not nut sensitive or most likely life threatening) but she has had nut free kids at both schools. The epi pen must be locked up I was told by law not in backpacks.
At her nursery school they did not allow any nut snacks. So it was not a concern. In K we had a nut free class. Parents were sent a letter saying that all foods had to be labeled with ingredients if they were not prepackaged. I was pleased to see they were very strict.
I would speak with the school again. Is this K? I have heard most school do anything from nut sensitive tables to nut free classes. Also look into the 504 mentioned above.

It's a private first step program
