Milk allergy moms...cupcakes/parties at school
What do you do at school when there is a birthday party for one of your child's classmates? Do you always send in cupcakes or is there one you can buy that is diary free or do you leave something at the school for them?

Re: Milk allergy moms...cupcakes/parties at school
I send in a box of pre-packaged oreos from BJs. It's 30 packs of 6 oreos, that is usually sufficient to cover the birthdays and other class parties.
His first year at nursery school I bought cupcakes from Divvies and froze them individually and sent them in if I was told on advance about the party, but most of the time the parent & teacher both forgot to tell me. So the oreos was just easier and that way he has a special treat too.

Unfortunately we can't do oreos DD is allergic to chocolate as well.
What is Divvies? They have a freezer at preschool I could give leave them there if I had to.

Divvies is an egg, nut & dairy free bakery. I think they are in Rockland Cty but they do mail order. I usually keep a few boxes of the bakery cookies in the freezer. They are great because they are packaged 2 cookies to a bag so they are perfect for parties and stuff. Easier than the cupcakes since you can't freeze the frosting and it was a PITA (and expensive) to keep buying or making frosting for one cupcake here and there.
The oreos were a cheaper option for school than the Divvies cookies since they don't have any of DS's specific allergens in them.
ETA: Their stuff is the best tasting allergy free baking IMO. I've put out their cookies at parties at our house and people inhale them and don't believe me when I tell them there is no dairy or egg in them.
RIght now I have the sugar cookies and Choco-lot in the freezer, if you want to FM me your address I can drop a pack of the sugar cookies in the mail to you so she can try them.

Thank you so much!! You don't have to mail them to me - but thank you so much for offering!! I will definitely check them out - you have mail ordered from them before? I have been making frosting in small batches so that isn't as much of an issue. - I will definitely check out the sugar cookies.

We've been using them for a few years now. I think someone once told me that the cafes at Nordstroms sells their products, but I've never checked myself to say for sure.
If you are near Bellmore there is Bare Naked Bakery on Merrick Rd that is gluten free but they have a lot of other allergen free stuff too. Some of their cupcakes are dairy free, but we find the frosting to be VERY sweet.
Babycakes NYC is another vegan and some allergen free bakery in Manhattan that does mail order, but we've never used them since DS was so happy with the Divvies stuff.

I always baked cupcakes or cupcake cookies. I think it's Duncan Hines or Betty Crocker whose cake mixes and frostings have no dairy in them. It's not advertised as "dairy free"- it just happens to have no form of milk in it. This was great because I didn't have to go to any specialty stores.
I often made cupcake cookie dough (google for recipes) and froze them in single servings and would bake them as needed throughout the year.
