Ped appt. / Feeding

Let me start by saying that my DS was a big baby, 8 lbs 8 oz. At his 3 week appt., he now weighs 10lbs.!!! I told the ped that sometimes he doesn't make it the 3 hours and I feed him after 2. He usually takes 2 1/2 to 3 oz a feeding. The ped said "everytime he cries doesn't mean he is hungry". I know this but when DS starts getting crazy and eating his shirt and hands, he is hungry!! Would you try to hold off for the 3 hours or feed your child?!!

I would feed them. I can also tell when DD is really hungry or she is just bored and feels like eating. You know your baby better than the ped - go with your gut!

When DD was fussy as a newborn, I found it generally meant either she wanted a diaper change, she wanted to be picked up, or she was hungry. Giving her a diaper change, rocking her or feeding her solved our problems 80% of the time so I always tried each of these things.

My ped reminded us that babies don't eat like us; they generally eat only when hungry and if they happen to over eat, they spit it up.

DD was 8lbs 9oz at birth but dropped to the 25% for weight over the course of 20 months so I don't think we were over feeding her.
