pedestal sink for a half bathroom
why or why not?
Currently there is a vanity sink and I feel so tight in there especially now that I am potty training my oldest. Thinking of doing a pedestal sink. I need something that can withstand the beating of 2 toddlers.

Re: pedestal sink for a half bathroom
I would not do a pedestal. Storage is always an issue. I would go for a slim vanity.
eta- I also do not like seeing the water hook ups, etc behind the pedestal. So I am not a fan of pedestals. They do not seem sturdy to me b/c they are ceramic and I have a feeling they aren't great with young kids (but no experience with this).

Re: pedestal sink for a half bathroom
I loved everything about my pedestal sink in my half bath...other than the lack of storage. We ended up putting a cabinet over the toilet but I never felt we had enough room.

Re: pedestal sink for a half bathroom
I have a pedestal sink in the half bath off my den. We put it in when we did a semi-renovation of the space. I like the look, but I did consider the lack of storage.
I think it depends on how you use the half bath. I don't need to store much there because we don't get ready in there - it's the restroom mostly used by our guests. I really just needed a place to store extra toilet paper rolls, so I bought one of those small standing racks at BBB and stuck it in the corner, and I keep 3 extra rolls in there. I have tissues on the back of the toilet, and I keep paper guest hand towels and a soap dispenser on the sink and I have a ledge by my window where I can display extra soaps and hand towels. I have a storage closet in my den, which leads to the garage, so I can keep other items, such as cleaning supplies, in there. I don't have a need for a vanity.
Keep in mind that if the old vanity is really slim, it may be hard finding a replacement that fits. In our master bath, the old owners had a tiny vanity (like 17 inches across) and when we went to replacement, we had a hard time finding one that fit. I think we ultimately got a 19 inch one, but the selection was small, and a lot of the ones I liked were way too big.

Re: pedestal sink for a half bathroom
LOVE!! Especially for a first floor half bath. We have the Kohler Portrait series with wainscotting in ours and everyone that visits always comments on how they love it. Kohler is quality, we have no issues with our 2 kids using it and the hook up behind it is neat and clean-you hardly see it. I hung a cabinet above the toilet on the wall for essential like first aids supplies, meds, etc. For us we didn't need the storage because we have 2 other bathrooms upstairs.

Re: pedestal sink for a half bathroom
yes, storage is not an issue, in fact I don't want to store anything in the half bathroom. It's strictly a guest/powder room. I don't even keep a potty insert in there, I use a travel one or my DD uses her potty in the play room, but we empty it in the 1/2 bath. I have 3 other bathrooms in the house so storage definitely won't be an issue, it that's the main reason, then I'm not concerned. I'm not sure about the pipe thing everyone mentions, the sink I want has like a "trunk", not the type that hangs on the wall with the pipe hanging out. LOL
