Pedicure questions for those of you due soon
I'm due in about 2 weeks, my sister is getting married this Friday. I want to get a pedicure for the wedding on Thursday but have heard rumors this could induce labor.
Do you think it's true? What would you do if you were in my shoes, would you still get a pedicure?

When you're ready to go into labor, you'll go...enjoy your pedicure! Actually get one now and then another one in two weeks....I had one a few days before I gave birth and then I didn't get another one until 7 months pp...so enjoy!

Re: Pedicure questions for those of you due soon
Usually the person doing it will not massage your feet as hard as they do to someone who is not pregnant...supposedly certain pressure points can put you into labor but if you are nervous, just remind them you are pregnant and they will be more cautious...and go for it, since it could be a while until you get your next one!

I think that the concern is that during the "massage" part, certain pressure points, when touched, can induce labor. I go for pedicures and ask them NOT to massage.

They can hit certain pressure points when being massaged, this can cause labor.

Thank you all, I'll just ask them to skip the massage part.

Re: Pedicure questions for those of you due soon
I'm due in less than 2 weeks and just got one today. I had to tell her to lighten up on the massage because my feet are so swollen it actually hurt! It felt better on my legs anyway so I had her do that! Good luck!

Re: Pedicure questions for those of you due soon
I was getting pedicures, ESPECIALLY WITH A MASSAGE (to me a pedicure is worthless without one!), sometimes 2-3 times a week in the last few months. My OB said that unless they really knew what they were doing and that their intent was to put me into labor, to purely enjoy the massage on my feet/legs, so I did just that.

Re: Pedicure questions for those of you due soon
The pressure point that supposedly puts you into labor is on your ankle. If you're that concerned I would ask them to skip your ankles and just do your feet. I just had a pedicure last week and I am not even close to being into labor.

Re: Pedicure questions for those of you due soon
Slightly off topic, but I need to get a pedicure. I typically do an awesome job all by myself, but as of this week... I am just too big in the middle to reach my toes!!
Ah, a good reason to indulge I think!!!!

Re: Pedicure questions for those of you due soon
I got an hour-long pedicure, complete with massaging, when I was 41 weeks pregnant, just hours before my scheduled induction.
You'll be fine, enjoy it!
