My coworker is in Tobyhanna.
There is also a poster here, and I can't recall her name, who lives in Levittown, PA, and commutes to NYC. I remembered her because my in-laws live in Levittown PA (and my parents in Levittown NY ) That is a very, very nice area.

Easton PA is a nice place and not a bad commute. My mom lives in Swiftwater, same distance as Easton from NY but it's north from Easton.

My cousin lives in Erwinna and I believe she commutes to NYC. My Uncle is selling his Wantagh home to move to Riegelsville.
We were looking in Bucks Cty at New Hope, Newtown, Doylsetown, Coopersburg...DH works in NJ, but is in NYC often.

My former boss traveled from Yardley PA to downtown manhattan every day. It was a trek, but he did it
ETA: oh and a former colleague travelled from Philly three times a week

I have cousins that live in Easton, it's about an hour and a half away...at least it was when we drove there.

Re: Pennsylvania areas that are "doable" to commute to NYC?
I've known a few people who live in the Matamoras/Milford area. I still think personally the commute is nuts. (like 3 hours each way).
It may be slightly more okay if you have a job where you can stay long shifts, like nursing and then have off for 3 or 4 days.

Re: Pennsylvania areas that are "doable" to commute to NYC?
I asked DH a while ago about this as a possible move for us. He works in Brooklyn. He knows 2 people who do it everyday. Takes them 2 hours each way to go to work. And it's a complete nightmare if they are train issues.

Bucks County is further south but is a nice area - Willow Grove, Ambler, Doylestown, etc.
Poconos area (Stroudsburg) is more north so you would have to take 80 across.
Bethlehem/Easton is pretty direct west from NYC.
