People really need to mind their business sometimes
On Tuesday my son was playing in my living room while I vaccumed. As I turned off the vaccum I saw him start to run and trip over his feet, he fell, hard, into my bannister. Face first. I ran to him picked him up and saw what I can only compare to the size of an egg welling up on his forehead. I ran to the Dr (taking my parents with me because I was a hysterical mess). John was given a clean bill of health.
Fast forward to yesterday, the lump has gone down considerably but its still swollen and its now black and blue. We are in the mall picnic area and this older woman is sitting at a table across from us and said "Oh my where did you get that bad boo-boo" I explained to her the story. She looked at me like "yea right" She gets up and walks away. 5 minutes later her she comes again with 2 of her friends and walks right up to my child and said "look at this poor baby, he fell "
I was mortified, I said Ma'am I was taught to respect my elders but you are way out of line. You have no right to insinuate that I did this to my son. How DARE you! She said "well you cant be to careful nowadays" I told her she needed to get the h e l l away from me NOW or there were going to be problems.

Oh, poor John! It must've been so scary for you. I'm glad he's ok.
And that lady had some nerve. As if you would have brained your kid with something hard to do that and then taken him out in public. HELLO, they're kids, they fall!

Re: People really need to mind their business sometimes
My SIL had this happen once when my nephew was small. He fell and got a pretty bad looking bruise on his face and she actually had someone in a store (again, a stranger!) refer to his "facial wounds". She wasnt even talking to the person!!! She still gets mad when she thinks about it and my nephew is 6. My son has had "facial wounds" 2x - both times accidents where he required stitches, 've never had anyone insinuate anything to me, thank God. Like you dont feel bad enough already that they got hurt.
As a parent, heck, just as a human being, I too would be concerned if I thought a child was being abused but how the h*ll can someone deduce that from a random encounter with a stranger in a mall? What an a**!! Im sorry you had to feel like you had to explain to this person.

Glad that your DS is ok.
What nerve that lady had! Unbelievable! Seriously I would have told her to get away before you called the cops and told them you were being harrassed.

You've got to be F'in kidding me?! I cannot believe people - I wonder how I would've handled that if I were in your situation... probably not calmly.
I am so sorry John fell and got such a bad bruise - I hope it goes away soon!

If she has kids- what- they never fell? Never had accidents. This was before the days of child proofing like we do today. Back then it was just called "an accident".

Re: People really need to mind their business sometimes
I have never heard of such a horrible thing...that is the rudest thing I have heard in a VERY long time. Wow..that is awful. THat women needs professional help. I mean, I could see if she saw a child being hit by someone but to just walk up to someone and accuse them of child abuse over a bump on their head is one of the worst things I have heard.

This is what his boo-boo looks like. And this is an improvement. What kind of a monster would I have to be to do this do my own baby???

Exactly!! I think you handled yourself with alot more decorum than I would have. I think my confrontation with her would have been something similiar to an ECW match!
I'm glad John is okay! These little ones keep us on our toes

Awwwwww...
Kids hurt themselves all the time. My 1 year old nephew is so active that he's always hurting himself. He's gotten bumps on his head too.

Are you kidding me?!!?!?!?!? I am so happy to see that you said something. And what you said was so perfect too. Maybe she'll think twice before she makes a comment like that next time. I'm sure the entire incident was traumatic enough for you without her idiotic comments.
