Pets at work
So for some reason, people in my industry feel it's okay to bring their dogs to work. No, I'm not a veterinarian nor do I work in pet grooming or any other pet-related industry. I also don't like dogs. Don't blast me for it. I have no problem with dogs on leashes in the street or at people's houses. But I'm not a fan of dogs being everywhere and ESPECIALLY not at my office. Today someone brought in a dog that's been barking ever since it came in. Not constantly, but regularly enough and very loud. And if I were to say something to him I would come off looking like the b!tch. Come on, people, what if I had allergies or something? I shouldn't have to be around people's pets because they miss them or can't leave them home for long periods of time. If I had a kid, nobody would be okay with me bringing him to work, so why can't they not bring their dog?

Re: Pets at work
I dont agree with that. Animals do not belong at work, unless you work in a vets office or an animal hospital. But then again, people think that they can bring their dogs anywhere now.

Re: Pets at work
I agree. Pets don't belong in the workplace unless they are a pet-friendly environment. And if they do allow it, they probably also have a policy for it that states no disruptive dogs.

I work at a medium sized TV production company. Very casual work environment. No official policy on dogs, from what I can tell.

Re: Pets at work
Okay, if you know anything about me, you know that I absolutely LOVE my two yorkies to pieces. I've been guilty of bringing them into a store because they are in the car with me (on the way home from my parents, etc)just for the sole reason that I won't leave them alone in the car. That's cruel. I would NEVER, EVER bring my two to WORK with me! That's just silly in my opinion. I would think it would be twice as much work to tend to a dog and work efficiently. No? What if people have allergies? I'm SEVERELY allergic to cats, and I'd end up needing an epi pen if one came near me.
People are bizarre and things cease to amaze me!!!

Re: Pets at work
I love my dog. He makes me smile. I have absolutely ZERO desire to bring my dog to work. I am at work to WORK. And to post on LIF! Having my dog here would be a distraction to me and it would really hinder my performance. I also think it is completely insensitive and rude to assume that everyone is a dog lover and would LOVE to have my dog around. Beyond the idea that someone might be violently allergic - dogs SHED. Why on earth would I want to subject people to hairs all over their work clothes? And then there is the fact that many people are TERRIFIED of dogs.
It's inconsiderate to bring your pup to work.
But that doesn't mean that Whamtastic is right. I just know she is a puppy kicker. I feel it.

I love my dog to pieces but I would never bring him to work. IMO unless you work in a pet related industry it's rude to bring your dog into a confined work space. Some people have allergies and some people are very fearful of dogs. Where do you work that it's OK for someone to bring their dog?

Re: Pets at work
We bring our dog to work with us, but we own the company and he hangs out all day in my husband's office.
We work a lot of hours and wouldn't have him if we didn't bring him. It would be cruel to leave him alone for so long.
But, our employees do love him and he's small and can behave in this setting. He's been coming here since we got him.
Before we got him, DH's sister had a very premature birth and we took her 2 chocolate labs with us here every day while everyone was running back and forth to the hospital all the time. They were also well behaved and just slept all day. I think it's ok as long as everyone's fine with it and nobody is scared or allergic. Anyone we hire now would have to be ok with dogs since he's already here.

Re: Pets at work
At my old company we were allowed to bring our dogs to work whenever we felt like it. Usually though people would bring them if we were having a half day or the day before a big holiday... I wouldn't be able to have Cooper at work when I actually had work to do because he's a lot to look after.
I always made sure everyone in my office (the company had about 50 people but there were 3 of us in 1 office) was OK with having the dog in there and if they said no, than the dog wasn't coming in...
Unless the boss says it's OK than animals, not just dogs, shouldn't be in the workplace...
ETA: Cooper was never without a leash when I had him with me and was always contained in our office and never was allowed to roam around...
