Re: Pets at work
My company shares office space with a pretty large advertising firm and some guy brought his dog in last Fri. Everytime he went to the printer he jogged like he was in the park and the dog was running after him up and down the isle. It was soooooo annoying.

Re: Pets at work
The company that markets our product the owner and his wife who is the EVP bring their 2 dogs with them to work. When they come to our building for meetings they bring the dogs. The dogs are running around the office whie they sit in a meeting and all the agents have to accomodate the needs of the dogs. It drives me nuts. I cant bring my dog into work and would never even think of bringing him into my building but some people b/c of who they are can get away with it. I hate it

is it everyday or every now and then?
if its everyday i woulds go to your boss and complain, not go to the owner.
if its once in a while.... then live and let live.
We had a girl who brought her dog every day. She doesn't work here anymore (not because of the dog), but one day while she was here the dog pooped in our office. She cleaned it up and swore he never did anything like that. Later that day he pooped again. Gross.
I just don't feel like I should have to deal with the distraction of a dog in the office, plus the fact that while I'm not afraid of them, I don't feel especially comfortable around them either. It seems really inconsiderate to those around you to bring a dog to such a small space for such a long amount of time.

Re: Pets at work
I have taken my dog to work but only on days that I was going to be alone on the office and had no client appointments. I do have clients stop by a lot but they didn't have an appointment and they understood. I would feel terrible if someone were allergic to him, but my job requires me to have medical records on my clients, so I would probably know if that was an issue. If it weren't my own business, I would not bring him. I limit it a lot anyway because I really like my landlord and I do not want complaints. He has helped me through, especially when I had to work Saturdays. At least I had company for break time!!!

Re: Pets at work
I have dogs obviously and I agree with you on this. My DH has allergies to many dogs other than our type and he couldnt do it if he was you. I dont blame you at all, its your right and they have NO reason to be there.
Dogs CAN be annoying when trying to work. To me thats just as bad as bringing a child to work. Kids can be annoying too, esp when trying to focus and, oh, WORK?
Is there anyway someone can make an "anonymous" complaint? Its just not right and yes, you will be seen as teh office biotch and its not fair to you.

Wait, are you comparing your kid to a dog? Please tell me no! Just kidding, just kidding.
As for animals in the workplace, I'm severely allergic to dogs, and even if I'm in the same room as them, I can barely breathe. It's not that I don't like them, but there's a time and a place for everything, and if I had to work with a dog in the office, I'd be extremely upset.

Re: Pets at work
I love pets/dogs but would hate it if someone brought their animal at work.
I have horrible allergies. My dogs are "hypoallegenic" and don't shed. I would be miserable, sneezing all day. That would not be fair to me.

we have dogs at work all the time- it's our policy.. I supposed if the owner is OK with it (in our case, it's the owner's dog) then that's the deal We don't hire people unless they are OK with dogs..
That's a dangerous hiring policy there. I mean - can you imagine having a perfectly qualified candidate and not hiring them because they happen to have severe allergies to dogs? How do they pose this question during the interview?
So how do you explain to someone more than qualified that they can't take the job unless they're not allergic to dogs and want to be around them in the office?... when the job itself (likely?) has no relation to pets.

LOL...my boss's (husband and wife) bring their two pugs to work every day. It doesn't bother me...only when they stink b/c they haven't gotten a bath, which happens sometimes.

what kind of work do you do that people are bringing their pets to work or are even allowed?
I work at a medium sized TV production company. Very casual work environment. No official policy on dogs, from what I can tell.
It is defintiely something about that general industry. DH works at a print media design/production studio, and the are 2 dogs who are there regularly. One belongs to the owner of the company, and one is another employee's dog. It would drive me nuts to work there, b/c although I find both dogs cute, I'm not much of an dog person and would get very distracted. I hate being jumped on and licked.

Re: Pets at work
i bring my dogs to work with me...... but only when i am NOT working.
like for example, i am probably going to stop in today for a few hours and i will be bringing Mia there.
BUT this is a totally different scenario. i work at a bar, not in an office.
i wouldnt bring them with me while working becuase i couldnt keep an eye on them, id be distracted, whod walk them and quite frankly people can steal them.
but when i go for drinking/hanging i always have at least one. but everyone loves it.
again, its entirely different.
however, when i open up my own bar my dogs will absolutely be at work with us everyday. whether it be one or all four.
