PG bloodwork came back high thyroid...need advice (UPDATED with question at bottom)
I have never had a high thyroid, just had it checked last summer and it was fine. The girl at my OB's office said the cut off is 3.8 and mine was 4.22 and that once you have high thyroid it's a lifelong thing.....is that true? Could it be a pregnancy thing? I am a little overweight...could it be a weight thing?? I have always been healthy....im really bumming about this....i don't want this the rest of my life....I HATE being on medication...
Is this really a lifelong thing?? No one in my family has ever had hypothyroidism....
ETA: They said that women can develop hypothyroidism after pregnancy, they called it postpartum thyroiditis....
So, does this mean that i will have more trouble losing weight??

Re: PG bloodwork came back high thyroid...need advice
I was diagnosed with hypothyroid while under the care of my RE and have been on the generic version of synthroid (levothyroxine) for a few years now, and my thyroid is under control with it... My DH has it as well...
Through my early 20's I was a stick, then I gradually started putting on weight (then underwent fertility treatments and those meds really put me over the edge with my weight) ..Yet my DH is thin and always has been...No-one (to my knowledge) in either of our families has hypothroidism either. My dosage has changed a few times over the years.
I was always under the impression that it is sort of a lifelong thing but to be honest I never asked that question specifically...During pregnancy, your thyroid can get worse so they always say to have your thyroid re-checked periodically during pregnancy...

Re: PG bloodwork came back high thyroid...need advice
if you're hypothyroid you MAY have difficulty losing weight if you're not properly medicated. i take synthroid every day (i was hyperthyroid) and trust me it's not that bad even if you don't like taking medication. it's like second nature to me now (it's been just about a year since my thyroid surgery).
good luck

I don't know, it was his nurser i talked to. I don't see him until the 16th.
I read somethign that says if you developed hypothyroidism while pregnant, it might clear up after the baby comes...can that really happen or is that not true? I have never had this before, my thyroid has always been fine.
Will this cause problems breastfeeding or losing weight after the baby comes??
