If everything reopens, what will he do with himself? Every single day it is the same thing..."And then we all thought the virus was coming from China. We were looking at China. Meanwhile it was already here from Europe. But we were so focused on China. By the way, i'm my mother's favorite kid." Every single region that said they would wait for him, left his sorry ass in the dust. He just talks nonsense at this stupid daily briefings, and flat out hides facts from people. This is not caring, this is not protecting us all from COVID when numbers are lower than they were when we started counting. This is a sick and twisted power trip, plain and simple.
Yes. It is a tired script.
He will make sure nobody makes it to phase 2 until Trump gives him his billions.
And notice how now that most camps closed, there has been no talk of sick kids all week.

I last heard any mention of the syndrome nearly two weeks ago. At that time it seemed 20 new kids were being diagnosed a day. I tried to find an updated article. I found one from yesterday. The same number as two weeks ago. So, we went from zero kids, to 20 a day, to zero kids. Yea, ok. This illness definitely exists, and kids certainly got sick. But I still say the syndrome is extremely rare- with 200 cases throughout the entire, huge state.

I really think there should be an 11:30 briefing drink game. Every time he mentions this came from Europe...DRINK!
OMG I said this exact thing to my friend today!! Honestly, I think the suspicion with schools is right. I do not believe he wants them open until there is a vaccine. And this is his way of making sure kids will be home all of next year.
All of this - yes! How much more can he talk and say the same thing daily? What is he getting from this over and over again? How much longer for the daily press conferences?

When does it become time to rise up and say enough of this asshole? When we've been locked up and lied to for a year? 2 years? When? When do we just stop listening?
I agree. I can't believe more people aren't getting suspicious and tired of this.

Re: Phase 2-Delayed
We don’t have phases here, so I don’t really know what Phase 2 entails.
That being said, I don’t blame him for waiting for whatever international experts he is waiting on. Considering we are pretty much open here (not fully) and our numbers are going down, I am curious to see what happens. We had far fewer deaths than NY did. I think Cuomo is just being cautious. I’m sure you will be ok by next week. The thing with opening up is that people think that they don’t need distancing or wear masks correctly. It’s happening here and I’m doing my best, but I find at times that I’m not distancing correctly in the supermarket, etc.

The thing is phase 2 in these less populated areas who met the criteria to reopen before 5/15 was supposed to start this morning. He speaks to us every day and he waits until 7pm to sneak that tidbit in?
Phase 1 was basically retail curbside pick up, manufacturing and construction - nothing much different than what was already allowed... So i wouldn’t think there would be any major changes.

The thing is he has NO reason to not allow phase 2 to start. They met the criteria that HE set forth. So pretty much he lied to us. If we continue to accept this, it's a slippery slope until we have no rights left.

That is what is so scary. I never realized that the governors had so much power. More power than the president. We are pretty much 50 small countries with our own rulers- and in our case, our own dictator. There are no checks of power. None. What a farce this country is. Seems civil disobedience is the only way to go

I know - I could see it maybe after Phase 2 or 3 when there is more interaction but, Phase 1 is pretty harmless - there was talk earlier this week of speeding through it!
And the fact he added it in at the 11th hour? After going on and on about the same thing - day after day...
He definitely is holding us as prisoners to try to get something.
Today is the camp decision... I'm sure he will close those two since he's delaying the phases.

Re: Phase 2-Delayed
Just wanted to share part of what a local assemblywoman posted on her FB page. It explains why they are powerless to stop Cuomo:
I scoured the bill calendars again and again - searching for anything that even remotely moved toward getting our legislative powers back. To no avail, there is nothing on the calendar that we voted on yesterday or are voting on today that would restore our powers. Our Conference has presented a bill that would curtail the governor's emergency powers by requiring every emergency declaration to be based on a county-by-county analysis, restricting state emergency declarations to 45 days unless an extension is approved by the State Legislature, allowing county executives or the mayor of New York City to request termination of a state of emergency related to their jurisdiction, and requiring due process protections for any actions that impair fundamental constitutional rights. Because we aren’t able to bring bills to the floor for a vote, it was presented as a hostile amendment to another bill. And they voted it down. This is the ugly truth of being in the Minority in Albany. I listen to the governor’s daily campaign speech (oops, I meant press conference) and what I hear are the SAME things over and over: This virus surprised us, it came from Europe not China, we need federal money, the federal government takes from NY – so we are entitled to more, we can’t let large corporations take federal money and then lay off people, and the best one - this is not time for hyper-partisan politics (yet, at the same time, he says the nursing home catastrophe is the fault of Trump’s CDC). Maybe he should look at his own state - where he is the king of hyper-partisan politics. He does not allow the Minority parties to have the voice they are elected to have. I want desperately to help people - ALL people, not just the ones who agree with him. Now I come across this article which says he is changing the re-opening plans for those areas ready to go into phase 2 tomorrow!! (actually today)! As long as he continues his full state of emergency, he has total authority over these decisions!

Phase 2-Delayed
My DH came downstairs this morning and basically said "we are out of here. You can teach anywhere and my sector has positions in all 50 states." Tonight after the kids are in bed, we are sitting down at the dining room table and starting our research. Florida, Georgia, Texas, South Carolina, & North Carolina will be our focus. And before anyone says "what about the schools?". Schools in some parts of these states rate just as highly as many LI schools. Plus we can get a huge house with lots of property, less crime, and NO CUOMO. I am beginning to think NY will be the only state not fully functional by the end of the summer. Imagine NY children are the only ones in the nation not going to school?

Sad that we have to move and leave our homes to escape this asshole's dictatorship. I feel like we are refugees. These other states should be granting us asylum.

We are looking to relocate as well in a few years. My DH wants FL because he has family there but I also have family in SC (Greenville, and Myrtle Beach although I believe schools are better in Greenville) and TX, Houston area. There are good schools in certain areas, you just have to research. I have joined many FB groups asking questions.

The schools on Long Island only get that "high rated" reputation because of the taxes paid, and the teacher's salaries IMO. Many other parts of the country, the teachers make a fraction, and the students are getting great educations. I grew up in Michigan, and had a great education. My nieces and nephews and friend's kids there get SO MUCH more than we get. Their taxes are like 2k a year. My former high schools in the district both have indoor waterparks. So yeah, I don't think LI schools are that great. And I live in a supposedly good district, where I feel my daughter is getting an average education.

I know businesses have been suing governors in other states. And I know that the governor of Wisconsin was sued by his states' legislators when he tried to extend the stay at home order there and they won and it was overturned. Time to start doing that here.

I'm in the minority here but that's cool.
I really wish people would just put some of this in perspective.
I feel like all I read on here is near hysterics lately.
I would understand way more if the talk were about people losing their jobs or businesses. Obviously that's a totally different story. But it's mostly about people not having a summer, vacations, not being able to shop, etc.
As a mom, I understand the school concerns. But no one knows anything yet. We need to give it a little time.
There are some posts that I would quote but then those people will get defensive and no one will get anything out of this post.
But some of the terminology and analogies... SMH.
Over 100,000 Americans died.
Literally no one ever said we'd be locked up forever.
People need to remember how much worse things can be. (Again, not talking about job/business losses.)

I don't care about my summer to be honest because I'll still have it. Beahces are open, my pool will be open, and my Jersey shore trips are still on. And I have my job still thank God. But yes, I am very worried about businesses and job loss. Because I can empathize with others. And I worry about the overall affect on the econmy of all these small businesses going uner. Tell me how you think this delaying of the phases- even though they have met all the criteria - will affect these small businesses owners? The restaurants? Their livelihoods? How is that ok? They were lied to. We were all lied to. Meet this this and this and you can move to the next phase. Then at the 11th hour- oh never mind, you can't now. We have to wait more. This is absolutely about job and business loss. It 100% is. It's not about getting a hair cut or going out to eat. It's about the people who provide those services and what this will do to them.

We have cancelled all vacation plans for the summer and have zero plans to to the beach. We will hang out at my parents pool. I dont care if I don't eat in a restaurant for another year. I will shop online. I will wear a mask and stay as far away from strangers as possible. I will follow every single rule you give me. But this is very much about businesses and job losses. My heart breaks for these people who worked so hard to get their businesses up to cdc guidelines to reopen today, only to be told last night, nope. Cuomo lacks all compassion. ONLY having compassion for covid does not a good human make. It is possibly to be sad for the lives lost and those families left behind, and also be sad for those who are literally losing everything they have ever worked for. It seems like it has to be all or nothing.
