Re: Photography school
Im not sure.. but when we never thought to ask if our photographer had gone to school for it, or which school... we just wanted to see their portfolio.
Alot of people volunteer or do work as a photographers assistant to gain experience and build up their portfolio, from what i've seen.

just ask people if you can photograph them for free. they get the pics, you get the experience.. its a win-win
i've seen people post for this on craigslist, and on here too

I have down that-
For alot of people at work... plus the pics Ive taken of my son, as well as my sil e-pics.... So I def, could put a little portfolio together...
The prob with that is the printing... so far- ive just uploaded everything onto kodaks gallery- and then they order from there- which is great.... but nothing high quality!

Re: Photography school
Maybe Monkeybride can get you in touch with the woman who did Miranda's 6 month pictures...since she's starting out a business doing photography? I remember her saying that she was starting out and also that she knows her from another parenting board.

it depends on whatkind of photography you want to do, i guess. but i'm sure you could find ALot of info on the internet, alone, that would tell you about developing higher quiality photos, etc...

Re: Photography school
I don't think you need really high end photos in a portfolio nor do I think you need a degree. I do think you need a course though to at least give you basics. You can just use an online portfolio & start it that way. There are higher end developer studios in Manhattan (I like Dugggal) and one I've used in Plainview (forgot the name but can try to get it for you).
One thing that's been suggested just yesterday to me was to take pictures of birthday parties. It's actually a pretty cool way to get started - because you can easily capture the party - and there's only one really important shot that you'd miss (blowing out the candles).
I think you'd be great at it.
eta. I'm still debating taking the Nikon digital photography course since I know jack about photography in general. I'll find out the details & FM you.

Can you keep me posted too? If nothing else I want to take better pictures of Miranda and stop paying someone to do it.
