What's your favorite tool to use, or "trick" that you tend to use for most of your photos?

I like to take a color photo and desaturate it then add color back in with the eraser tool.

fun, I have been working on my photo re-touching skills... I hope there are some good tips out there.
Here's one I use:
"dodge the catchlights"
Using the Dodge tool, Set to a small round brush
Set to highlights and 100%
Zoom in on the image
click on the very lightest parts of the eye, the will brighten up.
zoom in and out on the photo to see how it looks
(got that from Jessica Sprague)
ohhhh i have to try that!!
wheneveri try to brighten the eyes, i feel like it comes out looking fake

i do that one too, if it's more beneficial than using the lasso

Re: Photoshop people
Is Photoshop software that you buy or can you download it?
Sorry if that's a dumb question... I just don't know what it is! (but it sounds cool!)

I love these . They are geared towards digital scrapbookers, but there are some great tips here. I like the way she explains things...
Good site! thanks!

Re: Photoshop people
I haven't been editing photos a lot. I've been using it more for design stuff so Duplicate Layer is my new favorite.
Before that it was the healing brush or the clone.

Re: Photoshop people
GIMP is a free Photoshop-like tool that I've been using for years.
I like the clone tool. You can clone the area near where a blemish is, and hide stray hairs, kid's drool, bruises, scrapes, etc. Since you are copying the color and texture from right next to what you are fixing, it blends in seamlessly.

Guassian blur (with a hint of noise) for smoothing skin - have to do it with a mask!
Oh and I love light painting and lighting effects...

I recently found a great article about bumping the contrast in dull photos... it make everything realyl vivid!
If anyone wants the pdf of it, send me an Fm... I tried to post it but it is hard to read...

Liquify Tool Ever wondered how people shown in those slimming center ads shed so much weight? You’ll be surprised to know that you can shed a lot of weight from pictures using Photoshop by using a single tool called Liquify, which is located in the Filters menu (Filter> Liquify).
Liquify tools include the swirl, pucker, bloat shift pixels and reflection which can be used for various effects. You can freeze a part of the picture so that it is unaffected when the tool is used. Also, you can use a mesh that divides the picture into finite cells that can be modified. This mesh can be saved and used later.
This tool can be used to add a lot of abstract effects such as steam on top of a coffee cup or pizza and realistic fire.
eta - or just google liquify tool
I love the liquify tool! We've made some funny pics with this tool alone.
