Re: Photoshop people
I use Levels a lot instead of brightness/contrast. My husband uses Curves for this, but I can't quite get the hang of it.
I use Unsharp Mask on every picture, but only 30% or less. Enough to sharpen, not enough to pixelate/increase noise.
A tip on using the Clone tool: when getting rid of shine on people's faces or blemishes, use a "Dry Media" brush and bump down the opacity to about 40%. You can take multiple passes at the problem area, in different areas, to make it look more natural.
A tip for yellow teeth: use the magnetic lasso or the magic wand to select the teeth, then instead of playing with color, bring the saturation slider down.
I know someone who got this book:
The Photoshop CS2 Book for Digital Photographers
and said it was awesome. It's on my wish list but I haven't gotten it yet.

Re: Photoshop people
Did you do the tutorial on making brushes that basically are like rubber stamps? Love it! And making a straight line into a curve. I've been wondering how to do it. Best and most detailed but not confusing site ever!

Sometimes its hard to picture what you are talking about when you read it...

Re: Photoshop people
Here's one I touched up from a shoot and she was really happy with... I don't exactly have this person's permission to post (but I know her pretty well, she'll be ok with it ) so I won't be leaving it up so PLEASE DON'T QUOTE THE PIC.
I used a mask to apply a good dose of gaussian blur, then added a little bit of noise (to keep it natural looking). Change your brush sizes frequently to avoid places where you need definition like around the eyes, nose, & mouth. Then, turn down the opacity on the layer to keep it even more natural looking.
I also used unsharp mask on the eyes.
Another tip: always work in layers on a pic so that you can reverse your changes and never ruin the original.

Thanks!
I'm pretty sure I used my zoom lens (70-200mm) because I favor that one. But I'd have to check the exif data on the original photo to be sure...

Re: Photoshop people
This wasn't the original pic, but close enough to it (i just blurred the background on this one). But then I
Used magnetic lasso on the person inverted selection paint bucket-> black invert again played around with highlites/midtones slight blur around edges and face new layer -> grude mask (from the sprague site) transform mask to fit the size of the pic flatten.

Do those of you who posted pictures do this for a living? You seem more skilled than just a amateur hack.

Well for an amateur hack you've got some serious skills in my book!!!
I'm know very little when it comes to Photoshop. I've really only worked with Illustrator, though I would love to learn how to use Photoshop.

Re: Photoshop people
These are just playing around with some tricks I learned. I love that site.
Not real people. I always make that stuff up. And the poor baby had a watermark across her face...had to get that out. So her face looks a bit off.
