Pioneer Woman's Short Ribs

Do you think this recipe could be made in the crock pot? I'd do everything as stated in the recipe and then throw them in the crock pot. How long would you set it for?

How was it? I've never had short ribs before and the pic looks so nice, so I thought I'd try it.

Re: Pioneer Woman's Short Ribs

It was so good!

I did the searing of the meat and the sauteing of the carrots etc. Then I added the liquid and meat to the crock pot for 8 hours on low. O M F G. So good! I have more in my freezer. Can't wait for the next short rib night!

Can you find short ribs in Germany? I keep asking my butcher for them and he looks at me like I am mad.

Re: Pioneer Woman's Short Ribs

I didn't "find" them, but I brought in lots if pictures if what I wanted. Lol. I had to bring in a pic of the cow because they cut it up differently here. Then I showed him a pic of the cut and a pic of it cooked. He had to call a local farm and I think a supplier. I had to then wait about a week.

I did get funny looks when I picked it up. The counter person wasn't there when I ordered it. She asked what I was going to do with it. I explained I was going to put it in a crock pot. Which led to "what's a crock pot?". They don't have them around here and I ordered it from England.

Now on to finding decent chuck. The beef industry sucks here. They use old cows and the beef in the supermarkets is really lousy. I'm happy I found a good butcher who uses a local farmer and the ribs were good. I tried something like a chuck last week and it wasn't that great. Chat Icon It didn't really gave enough fat on it and was dry in my stew. Oh well. You win some and lose some.

Wow! You really went out of your way to get some short ribs!!

I can get a brisket on the bone here, thats nice, but short ribs, no way. I might try doing what you suggest, now everyone else in town will know me as the crazy American lady who wants short ribs, rather than that crazy American lady who just talks all the time! lol!
