In the fall....so now is a good time.

For Spring or Summer bulbs, you can plant them in October or November. Now may be a little early, but it's best to do the planting before the ground freezes.

I think tulips are supposed to be at least 8" down. Squirrels have trouble getting to them at that depth (their little arms are too short to dig that far). Some other bulbs, like crocus, need to be planted higher up though--I think they are 3". You can talk to a nursery about this, they do sell this mixture you can spread on the ground which contains broken shell bits. The bits hurt squirrels feet and supposedly, they won't bother your plants. I never tried this though--felt kind of bad about hurting their feet.

Good luck, and have fun! It's a lot of work, but you'll be happy you did it in the spring.

yes but those are summer or fall bloomers.

to get spring flowers you have to plant them in the Fall.Chat Icon
