Normally a huge pet peeve of mine but I gotta say, this winter I'm having a huge problem w/ a big preggo belly getting in the way. I just can't get to the middle of the roof of the car and I feel like shit that I can't do it.

I don't understand how people can drive without brushing off their windshields! How do they see out the back??

I used a broom to reach when I was pregnant!

Will this scratch the paint?

That's what I was thinking. I have a black car and I don't think I wouldn't do that. It's already hard to maintain black without adding my own dings and scratches.

I almost killed DH once when he took at SHOVEL to my car. A shovel!
Really?
I find it hard when I have a new car to remove snow. Everything- including the snow brushes, seems to be abrasive.

If any of the pregnant ladies who posted saying it is hard for them to clean the roof of their car off live in the Amityville, Copiague, Massapequa area I will gladly come over and help you out when it snows. Just send me a pm.

I drove DH to work this morning and we took the Meadowbrook. I saw two mini school buses with snow piled high on the tops as well as multiple other very large vans and trucks. The amount of snow on top of those vehicles combined with the speed people go on the parkways make me so nervous. I felt like at anytime a huge sheet of ice and snow was going to come at me. I tried to avoid them but if it wasn't them it was other cars with snow on the roof. You couldn't get away, so scary.

Re: PLEASE clean the snow off the roof of your car!

I saw a large SUV on 231 in North Babylon this morning get pulled over for this. The cop car was driving right behind him/her, and the snow was just pouring off the roof of the truck. There were plenty of other cars around, so it's not like the truck was speeding or blowing any lights. The only noticeable reason for getting pulled over was the snow.

Ughhh, this used to be a big pet peeve of mine. I would spend an extra 10 minutes clearing all snow from my car, hop on the highway and have tons of cars going hella fast with chunks of frozen snow falling off their cars.

I'm 5 foot tall and have a mini van and am 6.5 months pg. I can't do it. I do what I can but it's not a ton. I'm not trying to be rude, it's just pretty impossible!

So. I'm just curious - if someone was driving in a way that put you and your (soon to be) newborn in danger would that upset you? If so, why are you willing to put others in harm's way? We all have a responsibility to drive in a safe manner (in a way that doesn't put others in danger) and if you can't do that then you shouldn't drive. I don't mean this to be snarky but no one person has the right to out others in danger for their own convenience. Just think about how you will feel when your baby is born and someone speeds by you, cuts you off or is texting and driving near you when you have your baby in the car. By driving with a roof piled with snow you are doing the same things to others on the road.

We use a soft broom to get most of the snow off. It's no worse on your car than the brush on the ice scraper. After we get most of the snow off with the broom we use the brush on the scraper for the snow closer to the surface of the car.

And this snow is sooo much heavier than the snow we've been getting.

Yes! Both DH & I have to get our windshields replaced because the weight of the snow took a small ding & spread it across our entire windshield! Chat Icon

Agreed. I'm nine months pregnant and its my responsibility to clear off my job. If i can't do it I will find someone who will or I won't drive. I can't imagine how I would feel if I cost an accident that is 100% preventable.

We have this: External Image

It works well and does not scratch. I am not tall and have a hard time with my small SUV- but this does the trick.

Last week I was on the highway and a sheet of ice came flying off the roof of the car in front of me. The sound of it hitting my windshield was so loud I thought it cracked. I definitely am thankful to officers who write tickets for this.

PLEASE clean the snow off the roof of your car!

I posted this exact thread a few years ago and it turned into drama because people have every excuse in the book to not clean their roofs. Including "you shouldn't be following so close" which is ridiculous because the snow flies pretty far.

I agree. Ask a neighbor to help you out. Drive very slowly to a nearby gas station and give the guy $5 and he'll do it.

If you use a regular indoor broom it won't scratch your car.

Re: PLEASE clean the snow off the roof of your car!

I've been seeing cars who haven't cleaned their WINDSHIELDS beyond where the wipers go! I don't understand how they can drive like that. I am guilty of not clearing the entire roof but I did clear all the windows, almost the entire hood (except for the frozen part) and all the lights - and most of my roof.

How can people drive with snow on the windshield though?

Wow! I never heard of this. I don't even like using my brush that is intended to clean the snow. I could never imagine thinking, let me wipe this off with a shovel. Yep That sounds like a great idea. Chat Icon Chat Icon

Well they arent really enforcing it by me because I see so many cars & trucks with snow.

I hate when it hits my car and I Jump. It scares the crap out of me.

But I also close my eyes and flinch when its raining hard and my car gets splashed from the cars on the other side of the highway.Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I saw someone on the expressway this morning who had snow not only on the top of the car, but also on the back window. I wonder if it was the same guy! I couldn't believe how many cars I saw this morning that had a full amount of snow on them. It's so dangerous to not only the driver (I've had it happen where it all falls on the front of your windshield), but to other drivers as well. Smh.

And they do sell long snow brushes, they almost look like brooms, but they are meant for the snow. They are good for those hard to reach spots.
