Please give me any tips for Japanese Hair Straigtening

I am getting it done next week. Dh got me a GC for Mother's Day.

I am so excited.

Can I really step out of the shower and not blow it or straigten it - and have it perfectly straight? The skeptic in me just doesn't believe it.

Also - do you have to use special shampoos/conditioners now?

About how long does the entire process take?

How long after did you have to re-touch it?

Any other info you think I should know? Chat Icon

-Yes!!! Chat Icon

Also - do you have to use special shampoos/conditioners now?

-No

About how long does the entire process take?

- It took me about 7 hours for long thick hair

How long after did you have to re-touch it?

- I get it done once a year. After about 5-6 months I have to start blowdrying the roots. Now (at 1 year past touch-up) I blowdry the roots and go over quick with iron. Still takes me under 10 minutes to do my hair at a year later. It would be nice to get it done every 6 months but I am afraid of my hair getting damaged and breaking.

Any other info you think I should know?
-After you have it done do not put it behind your ears and don't use any hair clips or rubberbands. Wait as long as you can before washing it or getting it wet.

You are going to love it!

To answer your questions.

Can I really step out of the shower and not blow it or straigten it - and have it perfectly straight? The skeptic in me just doesn't believe it.

YES! lol I couldn't wait the first few days so that I could actually WASH it because I didn't believe it.

Also - do you have to use special shampoos/conditioners now?

I didn't. But I do recommend a good conditioner for afterwards, It is after all a chemical process, so you want to take good care of your hair.

About how long does the entire process take?

It took mine pretty much all day (6-7 hours) bring lunch with you and a book if anything.

How long after did you have to re-touch it?

I didn't re-touch it until almost a 6-7 months after the first time. It depends on how quickly yours grows and how much the new growth bothers you.

Just so you know, I was taken back by how flat my hair was afterwards. It actually bothered me. lol but after a few weeks, and new hair grew in, it gave it a bit of a lift and more volume.

Also remember not to put your hair back or tie it back or tuck behind your ears!

Good luck!

You should be excited. It's fantastic!!!!
Yes- you can just get out of the shower and go. It's amazing. It dries with no frizz, pin straight.

You don't have to use any special shampoos/conditioners.

Depending on how long your hair is depends on how long it takes. My hair is LONG, and it took 6 hours. BRING A MAGAZINE! :)

I got mine done 6 months ago, and I'm seeing that I need a touch up now, but it's definitely manageable.

Good luck, it's going to be wonderful, and I can't wait to see pics.

I'm getting done next weekend too, I can't wait to be able to just wash it and leave it to dry without it looking like a disaster!

I got my hair straightened once before but not japanese and it did nothing for my hair, I couldn't just leave it or it would be so frizzy, that's why I can't wait to do this to see if it actually works.

Good luck Diana!

Ohh good - can't wait to see it. The fact that I can't put it back for three days though should be real fun when Jack is obsessed with pulling my hair. Good times ahead! Chat Icon

Di, it came out awesome, although I haven't washed it yet.

Also - do you have to use special shampoos/conditioners now?
Nope.

About how long does the entire process take?
About 4 hours where you are going.

How long after did you have to re-touch it?
I just did it and it's been one year. I'd say for about 5-6 months it looked great, after that I've been using my straightener.

Any other info you think I should know? Chat Icon

I went today too to where you are going and it took only 4 hours (only Chat Icon , but the first and second times I went it took 6 hours). It came out great. Bring some magazines, a book, some snacks, water, etc. You are going to love it. Take some before & after pics.
