Please help BTDT Moms: At first how far apart were your contractions?

I have been having what I think are contractions since 3am, for the most part every 20 minutes. Everytime I think I am imagining them I get another one- they feel like period cramps and sometimes they start in my butt Chat Icon . They are intense but nothing earth shattering.

Also I am spotting brown every time I pee (and there is what looks like stringy brown stuff in the toilet)

I'm not really sure what to do at this point?

ETA When I get up from lying down I get an extreme backache

There is nothing really for you to do at this point...just wait till they keep coming closer together.

The week leading up to giving birth I would get contractions here and there and then they would go away. The day before I went into labor i had the blood like you. The night I went into labor I started having contractions every 10 minutes and they did not go away...just kept coming closer together. I waited until they were like every 3-5 minutes for about an hour and then I called the doctor. When I was checked at the hospital I was between 3-4 cms and they admitted me.

ETA: good luck! Baby will probably be here pretty soon!

I wanted to add, my doctor had told me to call them if my water broke or my contractions were 5 minutes apart.

I pretty much went into spontaneous labor with #2 (I was induced with #1) I woke up and they were about 8 minutes apart, then 6, then 4. All within about 30-40 minutes.

My contractions felt like menstrual cramps in the beginning and slowly intensified. I may have slept through the early part, woke up and they were about 7 minutes apart. This was when I started to lose my mucus plug and you described exactly what it was like.

Best wishes for quick and easy labor!

I would call the Dr. if you are bleeding. I couldn't time mine and they really didn't hurt - but I had some blood so the Dr. wanted me to come in and I was 4cm dialated already.

Sounds like you are in labor! My were 15 minutes apart at first, nothing earth shattering. The bloody show is a REALLY good sign that this is the real thing! I had that too! Nothing you can do, no need to call, just hang out and see what happens!

Good luck!!!!!

mine started around half an hr apart, went to 10 mins quickly, and stayed at 10 mins for a FULL day. After 24hrs, things went very quickly.
