Question for BTDT and first time moms re: sick call visits
I'd like to think I have good instincts regarding my DD's health, but sometimes I feel as if we are at the peds office all the time for sick call visits. She DOES have ear infections often and is getting tubes for them next week. But a few of them were discovered when we were there for something else and by chance, the doctor discovered them. Abby NEVER pulls on her ears, doesn't cry much and so I'd never really know that her ears were infected.
Now that her procedure is next week, I feel congestion in her chest. She isn't wheezing, she isn't coughing and her temperament is as good as always. She had bronchiolitis about 2 months back and we nebulized her for a couple of weeks, but that was after she presented with MANY more and problematic symptoms. I want her breathing to be stress free for her procedure as it should be. I'm wondering whether or not I should be bringing her in. She has to have peds clearance at the end of the week anyway.
I guess my question is, how do you know when something is serious versus typical baby/kid stuff and when do you go with your instincts and call or go to the doctor's office? I feel like they sometimes laugh at me for bringing her there for nonsense stuff (projecting my hypochondria on her) yet at the same time, I don't want to risk neglecting her health. KWIM? Thanks for reading my rambles.

I am right there with you....I used to always find myself apologizing to the ped office for feeling like I was overreacting, but I have learned to trust my mommy instinct and go with my gut - 99% of the time when I think it's worth a call to the doc, it is. When in doubt, call.

If I think DD has a cold, our ped. will tell us we can bring her in if we feel it necessary.
If your DD is having surery next week, I'd call your ped. just to tell him what's going on.

If you can feel it in her chest I would bring her in to the ped. When Jack had RSV he didn't have a fever or really any other signs besides the rumbling in his chest. With the procedure it's better to have it taken care of now!
Hoping she's not sick!

Re: Question for BTDT and first time moms re: sick call visits
When I am unsure, I ask to speak to the nurse, and she usually advises whether it warrants a visit to the ped.
I would call, and see what they say. They may tell you to bring her in.
for Abby.

Re: Question for BTDT and first time moms re: sick call visits
I am pretty laid back with colds and really try to wait it out a few days before going to the DR.
Also Is Abby coughing, runny nose? From the first time DS was on a nebulizer my DR said that that was now his form of cough medicine. So I tend to put him on the nebulizer right away if he starts couging etc...just 1x a day but that usually does the trick and kicks the cold before it starts....unfortuantely I didnt take my Drs advice on this until DS had about 3 bouts with respiratory issues...but now I am all over it and his last 2 cold never went to his chest.
In your case because of the procedure coming up I would go to the DR to hopefully get anythign that may be starting cleared up before the tubes need to go in.

Re: Question for BTDT and first time moms re: sick call visits
I have a hard time figuring out if the issue is serious enough to make a visit. What I usually do is feel free to call and explain a situation without saying I want to bring DD in. I let them tell if if I should bring her in or not based on what I describe
