Please post here if you are NOT getting your DC the flu shot
I am just curious. I am leaning towards no again this year. I'm still very torn though!
Feel free to add why not. Thanks!

I'm not. I never had a flu shot and won't do it for my child. Like I said in another post, I trust his immune system!

Re: Please post here if you are NOT getting your DC the flu shot
Lea got really ,really sick last yr and ended up in the hospital 2 days after the flu nasal spray ,so I am fighting with myself on what to do
I think if I do let her get it ,it will be the shot instead b/c I think the nasal spray is a live vaccine

Re: Please post here if you are NOT getting your DC the flu shot
DH and I never had the flu shot and never got the flu, same with our extended family members (our parents, siblings...) I was thinking about it when my 2 year old started nursery school but I opted not to. I want to protect him of course but my gut was saying not to inject him with stuff that's not even a 100% flu proof. I know adults and kids who have gotten the flu vaccine and still got the flu. Not saying it wont happen but my ped who will not say to do it or not said in so many words to do without it because he doesnt' have any health concerns (asthma, low immune system)...It has been around for awhile but why get something that might not work 100%. If we do get the flu we'll be on top of it and give it immediate medical attention with no delay. Anyway that's my personal take on the flu and flu vaccine.

Re: Please post here if you are NOT getting your DC the flu shot
No, DD is 11 mths and no I am not.
I had a bad reaction years ago...had a fever on and off for 2 mths. Never again so I say no for my DD.
Its been a VERY VERY hard decision for me but I feel her risk of getting these diseases (and not being able to get over them I should add) is less than her risk of getting a reaction to the shots...
Plus I feel she has had ENOUGH vaccines this year alone (first year) and is still due for more. So she has had enough chemicals injected into her little body.
the flu shot is one of the shots that has a lot of chemicals and causes greater reactions than many other vaccines our DC get and the flu shot is well known for higher risk of NEUROLOGICAL complications...so....thats partly where my stance comes from.

More/most details are in the book, (The Vaccine Book by Dr. Sears), as well as a very thorough description of what is in each vaccine, etc. THis is the only link I can find right now with a bit of the info.http://www.askdrsears.com/thevaccinebook/2009/09/flu-vaccine-update-for-20092010-season.asp

Re: Please post here if you are NOT getting your DC the flu shot
I'm not giving DS the flu shot this year but it's for different reasons than the ones posted. DS was recently diagnosed with a slight egg allergy so our pediatric group advised against it (since the vaccine I guess is grown in egg). It's just not worth the risk. However, I am nervous because DS also has a history of cold-induced asthma so this concerns me with flu season.
DS did get the flu shot last year and seemed okay. But again, that's before we knew about the egg allergy. Before I knew this information though, I was going to say yes to the regular flu shot and most probably no for the swine flu shot.

Re: Please post here if you are NOT getting your DC the flu shot
Thanks everyone I appreciate it!
I did give my 1 yr old DS the first half a few weeks ago and about a week or so after he had a really high fever for almost a week and got pretty sick and now I'm wondering if it was a side effect of the shot!
I am pretty sure not going to get the 2nd half for DS or get DD one at all.

I would BET my life on it...after what I personally experienced when I got the flu shot myself.

My friend said it's not possible because it's a dead short - something to that effect.

Re: Please post here if you are NOT getting your DC the flu shot
DS can't get teh flu shot b/c he is allergic to eggs. Apparently there is something egg-related in teh shot. ?
We weren't planning on getting it for him or us anyway, though. It just made our decision easier since he can't have it.
I don't knwo if he can even get teh H1N1 vaccine. Forgot to ask the dr. I am worried about this - on the fence about whether to get it for him or not (if he can hiave it).
I plan to be washing hands a lot!!!

You mean a dead shot, as in NOT a live vaccine? Well it IS possible b/c the fever and flu like reactions are the body's IMMUNE response to the vaccine (not so much as the person has an actual virus in them, kwim)?
So yes, fever and flu like symptoms are exactly what vaccines , esp the flu, can cause.

Yes that is what I meant. He got a few vaccines that day including the flu shot so I can't exactly point fingers but I'm confident saying one of them did played a part!
In any case, we cancelled our appts and are not getting them. Thanks again!
