What age baby?

Honestly, there are no "secrets" you just have to work with your child and your own comfort level. You cannot plan ahead with this.

the best routine that i found was no routine at all, and spend the time trying to learn your baby's signals.

it's alllllllll about the signals that they are going to give you.

Same here. We never forced him to be either asleep or awake. It just does not work. We just went with what he did on his own. He figured out day and night very quickly, slept through the night quickly and he is a pretty good napper, with a few small issues on the napping but only recently and only because some days he is in day care and some he is with me or family.

Read Healthy Sleep Habits, Healthy Child. That book has helped me tremendously. Even if I had gone by my son's signs, he FIGHTS daytime naps like crazy. Looking at the signs may work if you have an easy going baby, but if you have a baby like mine, following signs alone won't work! I am PRAYING that I have another baby they won't fight sleep like he does!

Re: PLEASE POST :how to get baby on a sleeping routine: secrets

We didn't really have a routine until about 3 months, and as others have said, I looked for the signs he was tired and tried to put him down awake when I could.

I swaddled, which also helped a lot. DS was a face scratcher and arm flailers from birth, so if I didn't swaddle him, I think things would have been much more difficult.

Start with a feeding schedule and a sleeping schedule should follow. Read 12 hours sleep by 12 weeks of age.

Read Healthy Sleep Habits, Healthy Child.

I wholeheartedly agree. But first you must read Happiest Baby on the Block! It was an great way to learn soothing techniques for a newborn. Then when DD was older I read HSHHC.
