Recommend your reasonable digital camera
My FIL is looking to buy a camera for my MIL for her bday...now they are completely computer/technology illiterate (we'd be uploading pics for them or they'd go to CVS w/ the card).
Under $300
EASY TO USE (THIS IS KEY)
decent features
at least 4 megapixels

Re: Recommend your reasonable digital camera
I have the Sony Cyber-shot and love it. Nice little camera with lots of options but very easy to use if you just want to point and shoot.
ETA: the model I have is DSC-W70 and it also takes videos.

Re: Recommend your reasonable digital camera
I had a canon elph. LOVED it. It crapped out after 5 years. I liked it because it was tiny and could fit in my bag.
We just bought this Canon SX100 is. I really like it. Down side AA batteries we bought rechargable canon AA and tey last long... It's easy to use. And the Zoom is 10X It is bulkier then my old canon but still fits in my bag
BTW It was 299.00

Re: Recommend your reasonable digital camera
I just got the Sony Cybershot 7.2 & I love it. It is so easy to use & $229.
My parents got the Kodak Easyshare when my nephew was born & that is one of the easiest cameras to use & the quality is amazing. They love theirs & there are times it takes better pictures then mine. Plus they got the entire printing dock system so they can print pictures at home

Re: Recommend your reasonable digital camera
We have 2 Olympus Stylus digital cameras that I like. One is from 2003 and still works great.
My SIL and my mom use Canon PowerShots and they both said they are easy to use.
My ILs have an older Sony that is really easy to use.

Re: Recommend your reasonable digital camera
I bought a Kodak Easyshare 873m (or m873?) at Costco and I'm returning it - really not pleased with the quality of the pictures.
We're looking into a Sony now ...

Re: Recommend your reasonable digital camera
We have the Canon SD400(older version of the sd450). We absolutely love it. I have have had it almost three years without a problem. I still have the original battery pack in it as well. It's by far one of the best compact cameras.

Re: Recommend your reasonable digital camera
Some important things to consider are your lens quality and optical zoom. You can have really high megapixels, but if you have a crappy lens, you are going to get crappy pics. With zooms, digital zoom is an interpolation, meaning the computer makes up what it "thinks" the color and lighting should be. Optical zoom is done with the optics of the camera and is more true. Honestly I rarely ever use digital zoom and if I have to use it, it's always on a tripod.
Canon generally has very good lenses and often are very reasonably priced.
This is a good, compact inexpensive canon
