Please tell me it gets easier (daycare related)
I will be returning to teaching full time in September and DD will be going to daycare (she's 16 months). We enrolled her in August for 2days/week so that she could get acclimated to her new environment (and for us to get used to it, too!). She started Wednesday and we took her for a half day. They said she did great and didn't ask for us really. However, when we picked her up, she saw us and started hysterically crying (broke my heart!). Her teachers said she was completely fine all morning. Today, we left her for a longer period, including nap time. Well, the other kids her age sleep on cots and I had a feeling she'd have a hard time (she still sleeps in her crib). I called at 12:30 and spoke to her teacher - all the other kids were asleep and she was laying on her cot with the teacher keeping her company and rubbing her back trying to get her to sleep. Apparently, she did relax but never napped Picked her up at 3 and again, she saw us, and started hysterically crying. They said she was okay today, but definitely a little more upset and cried a tiny bit. I KNOW this takes time for her to get used to, but I am feeling like such a horrible mommy for leaving her there all day, when she didn't nap and was obviously upset. I KNOW in the long run this is best for her - so when she goes full time in a month it's not a shock to her system, but I can't help but feel like a failure today. I could use all the hugs and advice you can spare

It will definitely get easier. Every day that she goes, it will get a little easier for both of you.

it definitely gets better.. once they adjust and have a great time, it makes you feel so much better. Chloe started daycare at 12 months (18 months now) and although she is not crazy about me leaving her (she's a little clingy) she has a great time all day. It's an adjustment for everyone

It is difficult in the beginning but it does get easier. Now DD asks to go to school.

Re: Please tell me it gets easier (daycare related)
First off
My mom owns her own daycare center, I worked with her for years... I have seen so many different kinds of children and how they react.
MY honest opinion.. with her only being in the daycare 2X a week it'll take a little longer for her to get used to it. The part-timers at our daycare always took longer to adjust than the full-timers. Its like once they JUST start getting used to it.. they go home for 3-4 days and when they come back its like they are starting from square 1. I bet when she goes full time you will recognize the difference!
If it makes you feel better we have had kids that scream their heads off and hyperventilate when their parents leave and after a few days/weeks... WOW you wouldnt believe me when I tell you they cry when they have to go home because they want to stay at daycare just a litte longer!!
IT WILL GET BETTER, no doubt in my mind.

THANK YOU!! I know it's tough now because she's only going two days a week - and like you said, once she starts to get the hang of it, she's home again for a long stretch. It's just so rough seeing her upset, even if she's not THAT upset - she's usually such a happy, carefree toddler!
