Pokey is in the hospital- he has a blockage- He is HOME!
UPDATE- my buddy is HOME- my house is back to normal
I am so happy- he is so cute
I don't even want to go to work today- I just want to hang out with him

he looked like he was trying to pee in the laundry basket
then I cleaned the litter box for him- thinking this was his way of telling me to clean it
but then he went in there and nothing
he is acting alittle off
guess we are going to the vet first thing in the morning
so after I posted this- I took a closer look at him, he was crying when I picked up and when I pet him
he felt bloated
he was hissing at maggie and my DH
I just knew something was right
I decided to take him the emergency vet
and they confirmed he has a blockage
poor little guy
I hope he is ok

This is the second time this has happened right?
Ask your vet about Prescription Diet S/D and C/D formulas.
Espresso had a UTI and we treated it, two months later it happened again and he had a blockage. He had to be catheritized for a few days until his bladder was clear and they sent him home with on this wet food diet.
He has been fine for almost a year now...
Apparently, the problem is that some male cats don't drink enough water, get crystals or blockages and have to be catheritized.
This special wet food is low in ash and gives them the moisture they need to maintain their bladder.
Be forewarned however, it's not cheap and it stinks....
Hope he's better soon.

the first time was a UTI
now he is fully blocked - same time line- 2 months to the DAY
I was told that he is going to have to go on a speical diet
but I am going to have to speak to our vet about it tomorrow- he has to go there for after care
today was a very expensive day
and I am sure there is more coming tomorrow
I would do anything for him- but I know he isn't going to eat that food - if it's half as bad as you are describing

He had to stay at the vet for three days and it ended up costing us around $2K
He didn't like the food at first, but he loves it now and cries for his food exactly when he's supposed to be fed. It took a few days for him to get used to it.
In the long run, the fact that he is totally back to his old self makes it all worth it.

My sister had a cat that was the same way. They switched her to low-magnesium food, and she was all better!
I hope your baby feels better soon!

ok- I heard from the vet
he had grit blocking his uretha
they don't know what caused it
I am picking him up in the morning- and taking him to my vet
I hope he only needs to stay 24hours more
I miss him

oh good- I am glad he likes the food
and more importantly that is worked
so far this is costing $1400
and then what ever my vet wants
I would pay anything to have my healthy little lion back (I guess he isn't getting groomed this week- maybe next week when he is feeling better)

ughhh... my cat gets crystals that block.
I dont know if that is the same thing.
I saw a problem developing recently, so
I switched him to the Science Diet c/d. he hasn't had a problem since.
That food used to look nasty, he wouldn't eat it. Now he eats it with no problem. I think they changed it.

well- I picked up up this morning
I am upset about a few things- for $1300 I expect the correct size cone on his head
he was so uncomfortable
second- I expect him not to have a double eye infection or at least for it to be told to me
I took him to my vet- he is there now- my vet was also appaulded at the bill- but said he has seen worse
he is going to be there until THURSDAY
I have no idea how I am going to make it
I was crying just seeing him like this- he was fighting to rip the cone off- so I know he is ok

Oh Beth, I hope Pokey is on the path to recovery....poor little guy!!
I know how hard this is but keep reminding yourself that as soon as he is home for a bit he won't even remember the ordeal. He is lucky to have such a great mommy and daddy!

I just called the Vet
he is ok
they run more tests
I am going to visit him tomorrow before I go to work
all I have to say is thank g-d I got fired from my last job
b/c this week is a major trade show and I would not have been able to take care of pokey the way he needs to be taken care of

she knew there was something wrong yesterday
she was following him from room to room watching him
I just hope she is nice to him when he comes back- b/c he was MEAN to her last year after she got spayed
